Hey there is a thread about Berklee going around and I thought I would start one about the L.A. Music Academy. Anyone have any thoughts about it? I looked it up it is only a 40 week program but it looks really good. I am considering it even though I have been accepted to Berklee. Anyways any advice would be awesome for me or anyone else interested.

Hmm yes. Much...

For the money, PIT is far better. Really for the money both would be far better then berklee if your goal is just gaining drumset skill.

LAMA and MI have bad blood, like black. LAMA stole a lot of materials to start their school, in fact many of it is the same today. A lawsuit forced them to remove some names and change a few things but still...

Somebody from here is goin to LAMA, it's significantly cheaper then most any drumset school, or used to be.

I'd vist all of them before you pick, esspeccially berklee, and figure out what you want out of your drumset edcuation. If you just want to get absurdly good, vs getting a degree etc.

I choose to go to PIT, i just wantted the most instense hardcore drumset program there is. And that is exactly what PIT is.

I choose to go to normal school after (currently) and grab a couple regular degree's.

That's exactly what I would do if I lived near PIT too. Problem is I live in Oklahoma haha.

Why is PIT better then LAMA?

Hmm besides the literally 10x facilities in size, 5x the staff, located on hollywood blvd, having live interactivity with all the other schools(guitar,bass,vocals,etc)... they also have a most excellent cafe food place in the outside courtyard. Great list of beers and variety of food... oh yea you can drink at school. It's rock and roll!

Well it sounds good josiah but I think they all come down to you and your work ethic. I think LAMA would be good because, man you can work with your instructor all the time and one of them is the one who basically started the PIT program at MI, Joe Parcaro. and the other guy Ralph Humphrey I believe are supposed to be two of the best in the business. So I think you could get more personal with these guys and talk to them any time you want since there is only about 150 students total all year compared to about 1000 at MI.

Im not knocking MI im just trying to state some pros and cons, im not trying to be biased, it just looks like the situation between these schools.

Well neither of those guys are anyone in the industry anymore... perhaps WAY back in the day.

Non the less, lesser students doesn't mean more time with the instructor. Think about what you said..
1/5th the students... and still that much staff, making it the same. Though like I said check em both out in person.

One of the most bad *** things about PIT, is the abbility to be REQUIRED to constently play live with other people. They can and do require this because they have the other instruments availible from the other schools. All the chops in the world won't do crap if you aren't used to reading charts and handing a band on stage live. Something required of by an PIT student multiple times a week in some rather large venues.

To drop that kind of money without a test drive is just plain retarded.

In person, the one school dwarfs the other. In it's facilities, staff, etc etc

yeah im planning on going to check these places out...ive called both and for some reason i think LAMA would be a better place then you know, but they both sounded kick *** from all the info they told me. But I believe you are right about most of it you sound like you know what you are talking about. but there is about 6 instructors and only like 40 drummers so I think that is excellent and i doubt you will find that ratio anywhere else that is what I think is good. Ive also owned a book authored by one constructor and it is pretty damn intensive its called "feet don't fail me now" by micheal something I forgot his last name. and ralph or joe played the drums for some american idol shows and dancing with the stars so Im sure they are pretty darn good and know a few things about the business.

the guy from addmissions at MI told me only about 40 to 50% of applicants get in so im worrying about how good you have to be? Im pretty good ive played for about 7 years and I can't read real well but I can do most of everything else that other guys can't.
