It's not. Simply a matter of training and practice. No grip will be a hinderence or additional blessing in your road to being great.
Though in theory... since you have already spent so much time with matched. It will take you more time to bring the Trad up to par.

i don't know. i started with traditional and then learned matched. for a long time i felt i had more control with traditional, but now i think i have a little more control with matched. i believe it's all about what you're used to.

Why do drummers switch between the two?
For example, in his drum solos, Peart switches constantly.

Feel, possibly.
If I'm just doing intricate snare stuff, I'll switch to trad.

Because they want to.
It may sound stupid, but it's true.
The grip you use is purely a matter of personal preference. Personally, I play about 50/50 matched/trad, just depending on my mood.

Craig Blundell did that at the clinic I saw him at.

angle of drums can make rimshots easy with one or the other so switching between the 2 could be used for that purpose.

There are some interesting, and I think very valid ideas about using the different grips.Ideas about muscle memory and repeated patterns..

I believe its all feel. I use trad when playing jazz and I don't really realize it. Matched I play rock.

i feel that playing Jazz and snare requires me to use traditional grip just because it feels better to me. But if im just playing my drumset then i do match

For me, I feel more comfortable using traditional even though I started out using matched. I like the rebounds i get from traditional and they are easier for my ear and hand to decipher. Plus since I play brushes alot traditional just began to feel more natural. But it is harder to control moving your left hand around the kit until you strengthen your fulcrum and quicken your fingers.

I play traditional more than matched. Not to say either is better, But I like the feel of rimshots more in traditional grip.

I use Tradimatched grip. :D
..meaning I use both equally as much. (matched sometimes a little bit more.)

I think matched will be stronger because the left hand is weaker on the traditional grip so for the matched they can be even easier. Traditional looks way cooler though.

To be honest I don't think it makes any difference overall. Theres one thing you have to keep in mind with any instrument.
Whats the easiest way for me to play to my best ability and the most comfortable way? Thats the question you should ask your self. Same goes for how you set-up, grip, proper techniques ect ect. Don't worry about looks or trying to change for the sake of changing. Play whats right for YOU and you'll be better off in the long run.
