PDPs aren't the best when it comes to quality control, or so I have heard on numerous occasions.

Well that's going to be pretty irrelevant if your product falls apart or has poorly cut edges, though, isn't it?
They're generally known to be an all around decent kit. Problems I've heard have been mainly with hardware and bearing edges.

Yeah i've heard that too, usualy when word gets around like that it's true.
You might be better off waiting or looking for a second hand mapex or sonor kit.
Ive never had any problems with my CX. Ive looked at the bearing edges after hearing that rumor and i didnt notice anything wrong with them. I also look at them every time i change out heads and there never seems to be anything wrong to me.

my teacher had a PDP Mx set. I thought they sounded great.
If you are really really picky and care that much about bearing edges and the sound difference caused by it...just go buy a pro level kit and be done with it.
Based on the fact that you are buying used it sounds like a better price is more important to you than the sound. Thus, Mx should be fine. A great sounding kit for a great price.

No, bearing edges MAKE the kit. If you've got a wrecked edge, your drum is shot unless you get it recut.
I'm not saying PDP kits are all garbage. I'm saying if you do get a good one, you've got a pretty good kit. If you pick up a kit with some badly cut edges, though, you're going to have some real problems.

Thats exactly right, bearing edges are EVERYTHING.
I've always said that heads, bearing edges and tuning make up all the sound the human ear picks up as "good tone". You could have the best custom kit in the world that costs a million dollars but if theres a slight defect in the edge your screwed. All the tuning chops in the world won't save that.

indeed. If i wouldve gotten a messed up bearing edge on any drum I wouldve taken it up with their customer service.

Ahh yes... bearing edges are very important...
I will check the bearing edges of the shells when I get them... thanks!

You mean when you get to the shop? I got the impression that you could go take a good look at them before buying, correct?
If they are all fine then I wouldn't worry about anything. Even if you were to have hardware problems you could replace the necessary parts. I'm sure you'll be fine though. Hope it works out.
