uhh. picking rather, when you play like a 134 124 1234 blah blah blah ****ing patteren do you do an upstroke or a downstroke ont eh next string down to start? and what about comeing upwards?

You keep the pattern going. So if you ended with down on one string, go up on the next. The whole point of alt picking is to reduce the time it takes, and it would take time to make yourself switch around while going string to string.
