Okay guys, I was just playing Diablo II, when my disc drive made the most awful sounds. Try throwing your best friend into a mincer, and simulatenously run over it with a steamroller. That's the best approximation of this sound.

So of course I press the eject button, and a few minutes later the noise subsides, and it pops out my Diablo II Expansion CD, with the new addition of a surgical cut that extends across all but 1 cm of the diameter. Now, that won't buff out, so I need to know if simply copying all the Diablo II files I can muster onto a new CD will work, or am I resigned to buying a new copy (which granted is a bargain bin product now).

I would prefer not to download a No CD Crack, by the way.

Once it doesn't have copy protection, and the data is still accessable, you should be able to just copy it straight.

I once put a cd into my cd rom, walked away to talk to my roommates parents (we were moving into the dorms at the time) and I heard this loud pop from my computer....I got back and can't even open the cd rom. So I get a screwdriver and open it, and out pops my cd, in about 1000 pieces.

If you can't buff it out with the old toothpaste method then it's more than likely you're going to have to buy/download a new CD. :(

theres all kinds of different cracks. the most reliable ones are made by reputable warez groups such as Fairlight, deviance, razor1911, reloaded, immersion, etc.
