ok maybe not "weird" but new diffrent ways to play. for example taking a bouncy ball sticking it on a straight coat hanger and pulling it across the cymbal/ drumhead. (this also works for the guitar). another one is hitting the cymbal at a 90 degree angle so it makes a chiming sound.
discuss random ways to diffrent sounds from your drumset
note: the bouncy ball methord doesnt work on all drumheads or with all bouncy balls

Replacing the kit with saucepans and frying pans is pretty weird to me, but immensely fun.

Blow saxophone into gong and giggle for hours because it rings forever.
I don't know.

Actually some weird/cool things for orchestras would be a brake drum or a gong semi-immersed in a tub of water.

Or we could just submerge the percussionists in a tub of water and hit them with sticks...
Good idea.

One crazy thing my drum teacher did. He brought in a pretty beat up marching snare, and drilled a small hole exactly in the centre of the head. Then he weaves a piece of string through. When he tightened the string and ran his finger up or down, it sounded like a lion's roar.

For a huge sound, use an old cloth, and really rub it hard.
