The drummer is brilliant. We all love him, and his unique playing. But quite frankly, I was really disappointed by this particular video. It was the only video I've ever seen which was him being himself. He is very well-spoken, but I didn't really like his attitude towards drums. He almost appeared bitter because he couldn't play other instruments as well.

I didn't like the fact that he said "It's a joke!! Anybody can play it."

I wouldn't say he had a bad attitude as such. You're taking those words out of context to some extent. He also said "or maybe that's just me" or something along those lines. Some things just come easy to people. For ole' Stewie, it's drums.

I think what you call his "bad attitude" is more of him saying "What I do is easy, I'm nothing special"

He seemed very young and naive. I never knew he had such chops. I saw the message in a bottle video, I was disappointed when he didn't play the third verse the studio version.

His bitterness seems to be mostly directed towards the recording process, and its perfectly understandable: the drums go down first, there's so much more pressure. I actually identify with Stewart alot with what he's saying...basically, he considers himself a musician first and foremost, and cares about all aspects of music...however, as far as performance is concerned, drums come naturally for him, and he's the best at playing them and enjoys them the most.

He does seem to be overplaying the uniqueness of reggae, though. It's simply cut time...the only thing that's different is the bass is serving as the backbeat instead of a snare or hi-hat. It's definitely a nice and unique feel, though.

Hahaha, I was just personally offended for some reason. I didn't like the way he kept playing at the beginning either, while the guy was trying to speak with him.

Doesn't reggae do alot with syncopation though? I thought that's what he was getting at. Or maybe I'm just not understanding your post, I dunno.

I liked the video, I didn't think his attitude was bad at all. I agree with dumbassdrummer, I think he was just trying to be a little modest, at least from what I got out of the video.

Oh, Reggae is syncopated as hell....like jazz. He was really focusing on the backbeat placement though.
