im sure you all have heard of or seen "The Reverend", the drummer from Avenged Sevenfold. and i dont know about the rest of yall but i think that he is a very Underrated drummer. And he definatly deserves more respect that people give him. hes very very talented. Like in beast and the harlot, 3/4 the way through he goes on a little solo and in Blinded In Chains at the 2:50 mark he does an incredible double bass rudiment with some snare.

I think he's a good player. He has good use of double strokes and is very good at double bass. I love playing Bat Country with guitarists

did a post on him in october

http://musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=404817

theres a couple pages of what people think about him, although in the middle it turns into an arguement about joey jordisons skill (or lack the of) like every other thread... and im sure that by me mensioning his name in here, this may soon become another joey thread, but theres still a post or two at the end involving the rev.

... i think hes a damn good drummer... and that he is underrated, although he is not nearly the greatest drummer in metal (IMO)... im talkin about the rev, not joey

Just like 99% of metal drummers out there. Boring, cliche, and overrated by 12 year old hardcore emo myspace kids.

I find him, as well as the rest of A7x to be extremely overrated.

i also find them overrated musically, and boring musically. sure they know how to perform to their fans, but to people who aren't a fan of the music.. thats another story.

I love their music and vocals from their older CD's, but City Of Evil sucks ***. I can't stand it. I don't think he's anything super special, there's better out there. But he is good.

They are a terrible band altogether and they themselves are douche bags as in their personalities.

They are all image (slipknot nostalgia anyone?)
no substance

stage names are lame(ahem nostalgia once again)

except for the flea but that was less a stage name than a personality he lived up to

I totally agree, A7X is one of the most boring, uninspired waste of a record deals out there. The reverend is like the rest of his band, his playing is boring, repetitive, and uninspired. And the stage names, pathetic, these guys need to die.

For all you haters here I would argur that Waking the Fallen had some real substance and was a cut above what everyone else was doing. I find that with City of Evil instead of seperating themselves from the pack they got closer to joining it.

He's a pretty good player, but I'd like him more if he played in a better band, Avenged Sevenfold is pretty terrible IMO.

Is that your alternative to 'The Rev'? It'd sure get him more respect.

He's a good drummer, but he's starting to get almost as many threads made about him as a certain Travis Barker.

Waking the Fallen was completely a cut below what everyone else was doing, adn A7x have always been "the pack".

whoever said hes worshipped by emo myspace kids. Your exactly right. Yea know theres lots better drummers out there. but i do like him. And yea i think A7X is good but mainly i dont like some of there songs cause the guitars sound a little too much alike in all the songs.

A cut below? I'm not a huge metal fan by any means and I thought that was a very good album, it had more substance than most.

I posted my opinion about him on pearl forums and all the newbs - repped me and said heres - rep for a bull**** opinion, and u suk and things like that?

I didn't even say he sucked, I said the band was horrible and they just don't understand.

That was going nowhere, anyways...yeah, "The Rev" is a pretty boring drummer.

he also heavily triggers live.
and can't keep a steady beat.
and looks like a MCR reject.
and looks like a tool when he plays live.
and can't play fitting parts.
and fills too much.
and doesn't goove that much.
and sounds too much like Jordison.
And THAT = Over-rated, in my opinion

Caleb_Pickering

hmmm if you were going to choose a drummer to get hit by a bus would it be travis barker and joey Jordison together, or the rev by himself?:p

yea i like wreckl alot his are like whoa. but yea i also enjoy many drummers and genres of music. I like the Rev mainly cause of what i stated before and i like how he fits the drum part in. and thats also a band we like to cover sometimes because there fun parts to play IMO.

I love how I can always depend on the D&P forum to criticize a professional player and say he's talentless because he's not as good as other professional drummers of totally different styles.

For the style of music he plays, he adds a lot to the music. You can hate the band, and you can hate the sound, but if you can't appreciate the musicianship or musicality of the band's music, I don't know how you can call yourself a musician. Musicians have the most closed minds of any music listeners and it's a pity.

Oh please. Do NOT bring guys like vinnie c and weckl in here, they are in a different league than the drummers of topic in these kinds of threads.

Ok, thats fair. Now lets compare him to a few metal players. Tomas Haake and Gene Hoglan come to mind. THEY have great chops, not this turd. And since you said that Vinnie plays a completely different style than "The Rev", how about that megadeth album he played on? Your point is valid if "The Rev" was a great drummer who just played metal, but the point is he is mediocre or worse even in his own genre.
