It is soon to be upon us and it is a great time to kick bad habbits.

i haven't actualy decided. Although my mission for lent is to help organize as many gigs as possible.

I am also recording a new local ska band so they can send a demo off to local promo companies. i am also helping the drummer of the band to progress in several ways.

yeah anyway like the thread says..aare you kicking any habbits?

y'all miss the point of "giving up" something for lent...

This year i'm giving up meat again, i did it last year and i'd like to do it again.

I'm also going to restrict my PC time to a half hour a day. that means if you wanna talk, you'll have to call me.

Lent isn't about just giving something up... if y'all are curious keep reading.
A friend said it best for me, he said something like:
"you know that phrase, you don't miss something 'til it's gone? well lent is about forcing yourself to miss something so you appreciate it being there."

I think that really explains what sacrificing something during lent is really about. it's like taking a step back and examining what you *think* you need vs. what you actually do. it's also about stepping back and examining and appreciating things that have become habitual - for me, i spend HOURS on the PC every night just out of habit. By giving it up, i'll first realize how much i miss it, how much of a resource and connection to the world it is, but then also that life existed before MX and AIM and if it had to, i could go back to that.

So folks who seriously do something "i give up work" to get out of working or "i give up coke" because they don't do it... are totally missing the point.

Chippy569

Lent is retarded.
no, lent is an opprotunity to grow and mature as an individual.

besides, only people with low mental functioning can be called retarded.

derryk
02-27-2006, 07:43 PM
It can also be DOING something, like making an effort to be more polite everywhere you go.

I don't think I'm going to give anything up... even though there are some great non-religious reasons for participating in Lent, I just don't feel up to it this year.

I disagree, I think it's a terrible idea. Just like 95% of all religious things.

Religion was an explanation for things we didnt understand. It iwas a means of control to regulate society; it was created for a society very different from ours and thus many of the practises are irrelevant in modern society. Despite being dated, many of the ideals organized religion stands for (caring, community, etc.) still apply today.

Saying 95% of religious things are terrible ideas is a very ignorant viewpoint probably taken by someone who feels the need to be "non-conformist", even though being "non-conformist" is pretty damn conformist right now.

People with closed minds like you piss me off as much as the people who hate Bush because celebrities hate him.

Well, I'm focusing more on bettering myself by actually doing things this lent, such as:

Practicing drums for at least 1 hour every day.

Programming or studying programming logic for at least 1 hour every day.

Trying to correct my posture.

Focusing more on my religion, Religion is already a big part of my life, but lately I think I've developed the habit of praying for my own personal desires, when I should be praying in thanks for what I have, and praying for others needs.

Then I may give up some stuff, probably soda. I still have to think about it.

I think I'm giving up going to church. This sounds retarded I know but it's more important I think to find religion within yourself than through some minister man. I'm also giving up bread, but that's more of a convenience than something I'm doing for jesus.

Plus I'm saving ten bucks a week to afford new bass pedal

Ahhh yes, someone that is not a ****tard.

Although i'm not religious, i can definitely respect religious view points.

Except how God hates homosexuals!
