I want to get a new ice hockey game but I don't know which is better. I've read up reviews and they both sound pretty good, 2K6 sounds very good but does it have a 'create-a-player' mode? I always found that cool. They both sound good, I have seen a few negative comments about both but thats expected really. I'm hoping that maybe a hockey fan or avid gamer may have a good recommendation as to which is the better game.
I had NHL 2002 and that was awesome, but I want something updated so thats why I'm choosing either 06 or 2K6.
Anyone have any advice or tips? Thanks for any info :chug:

I voted for EA Sports just because I was working at EA during the time it was being released.. and it had so many bugs..

I have NHL 2K5 (ESPN) and I love it.
I'm about as fanatical when it comes to sports as it gets. :p
It's smooth, gitchless, realistic and damn great.
NHL 2K5... Owns.

I heard you can play NHL 96 within NHL 2006. Can anyone confirm this? Because that would be totally sweet.

I'd trust him, but I thought they did a very good job with NHL 06.

Isn't there some issue with the right analogue stick or something? It does special tricks but you can score just by pushing up on the right analogue?

The right analog is a trick shot and hit stick.?
That's reason enough for me to buy it.
I have 06 and love it.

I've heard that both are about equally good as far as gameplay wise. However, I'm pretty sure that 2k6 is a budget title. So I'd say go for 2k6 only because it's cheaper.

ESPN games > EA games
Only EA game that's better than it's ESPN couterpart is Madden.
Otherwise the ESPN games own.

Anyone who thinks 06 is better deserves to be shot right in the face. I bought an X-Box just to buy ESPN NHL2k5 when it came out, I didn't buy any other games either (until 2k6 came out of course). Was the game worth it? For sure, 2k6 is only an improvement.

NHL 94 is where it's at. I still have it for my genesis.

I guess I deserve to be shot in the face.. I thought every ESPN game I've played was terrible compared to EA games.

It depends if you're a big hockey fan or not I guess. ESPN is way more like real hockey than the EA games.

that game was classic, i remember that if you skated a certain way by the goalie you could score every time guaranteed

Does 2K6 have 'create a player mode' by any chance?

Of course. I put myself in the game and the commentators say my name too. (Also in the three stars selection they say my full name) I thought that feature was pretty cool, not as good of a create-a-player experience as Madden but still good.

Yea, the kids who did that were SO cheap. I hated them!

My friend and I would have like 20-18 score games in 94, cutting across the crease works every time.

2k6 sounds like a dumb way to say 2006.
That being said, I don't know anything about ice hockey games.

I played hokey for 7 years and coached for 4.. I am a hockey fan. I just thought the look, gameplay, I really thought it was an overall better game. Maybe I'm the odd man out.

Hmm, both are equal on 6 votes-a-piece. I'm guessing they're both as good as each other, its just a matter of choosing the right one for me. I'm slightly leaning towards 2K6 at the moment but its still in the balance.

With ESPN 2K6 you'll get a more realistic game.
With EA's NHL 06 you'll get more of an arcade game.
That's pretty much the bottom line.

I have 2K6, I was addicted for a while and its a great game, but I cant compare it to EA's 06'. 2K6 is only $20 though, and more than worth it.

Thanks to everyone for their input, I think I'll go with 2K6. Partly because its winning the poll, but mainly because it just sounds more like my kinda game.
Also, there are 2 Game shops in the town I study at (the actual shop Game, not in general) and one of them said they don't have NHL 06 in stock, so went to the other one and spoke to the manager who said you can no longer buy it, the only way to get a copy is second hand. So, in that sense, it has to be 2K6.
Cheers for all the help :chug:
