Alright, so I've finally found time to get into a real Flaming Lips zone. And I have Zaireeka, but of course no 4 stereos to play it on. I believe I can overlap all the tracks though using a sound editor.

I'll post again on my results, and if it works or not. I'd imagine it to work, but not to the effect that it is supposed to. Since there would be expected to be so many channels available, and with overlapping the CD's it will probably give a more thin response than expected. We'll see......

(anyone else have a go at this idea before?)

That would kinda take away the effect of.. I dunno.. the whole album?

The best way to listen to Zaireeka is with the volume off.

I'd give it a shot with a track or two. But I am in a dorm with some crappy Creative speakers. Getting Zaireeka to the full effect is not happening anytime soon.

EDIT: I just got the album so I don't know the tracks very well. What track would you guys want to hear mixed? I'll put it up on my server if I get it working decently.

Success! it takes some time doing the conversion process, but I had to find something that would make every track line up. And a program that I could use to handle 4 stereo tracks. I'll put up the details soon.

I'm pretty interested in this outcome. . .

Well like I said, Success... sort of. I can't tell if all of the tracks are totally in time with each other, although most percussion and music cues are on time. But you know the Flaming Lips, they can have off-beat music, and it is supposed to be like that (I could use other ears to try and figure it out with me).

I would offer to share this with you guys, but I dno't want to sound like a pirate, so perhaps if you PM me, I can give you little sound bits. Cause I don't want to be breakin' no laws.

With it all consolidated down to one source, it sounds like standard Flaming Lips whereas listening with 4 sources really provides a unique experience. It's just not the same.

Exactly. I've listened to the final result, and it is nothing more than a Flaming Lips album. I can only imagine what it would sound like with 4 stereos. It's not that big of a deal when it is all lumped together.
