Alright, I'm pretty irritated because I thought my rig was loud enough but apparently it's not which means I get to spend even more money I don't have. My rig consists of a hartke 500w head and 2 Avatar cabs (4x10+1x15). My bass is a MM stingray. my band moved into a new room. it's not huge but not small. my drummer just got a new kit so it's pretty loud itself and my guitarist uses a marshall jcm800 head with a custom built 4x12 cab. with my guitarist at only 50w i can't hear my bass even with my head cranked. i can feel it somewhat but can't hear it. then it starts clipping and just sounds like muddled crap. so, i've decided i want an 8x10 cab for that loudness + clarity. i also want a more powerful tube head. if i go ampeg i can probably get an 8x10 + svt4PRO head for $2300 or so. do you guys think it's worth it? i know it will sound much better but i've never heard how loud that would be able to go. i need something to compete with a very loud drummer and a very loud guitarist.

well, before you do that, try playing with your EQ and amp setting to try to cut through a little bit, 500w should be plenty. also, try moving the amps around the room, there may be spots where it amplifies acousticly wich would help alot. 500w should be more then enough.

I'm surprise that's not loud enough.

In my last band both guitarists used Marshall stacks, and the drummer sure as hell didn't play softly. I have a Yorkville BM200. I wasn't powering over the guitarists and drummer, but I could be heard easy enough. I just placed my amp on a table and had one spot in the room I always put it.

If it really isn't enough, try micing (sp?) it through a PA if you have one.

Ya I was surprised too because it's loud, just not loud enough when everyone is playing. I'm not exaggerating or anything, it's literally not loud enough to hear period. If i stand right next to it i can hear it but when i move into the middle of the room to try and get a more even mix i can't hear myself at all.

Hartke and Avatar is good stuff but not the most efficient or top of the line. meh i dunno.

Maybe your guitarist' use to much bass? I know i had that problem but i only had a 60 watt amp and that's all i could hear was him. And isnt 500w enough to do a decent sized show?
