Whenever I hear "Thug Love" I get all nostalgia for whatever year it was that The Art of War came out. Oh, halcyon days.

There is some pretty awsome hip hop going around but the difference beetweween it and other types of music is that the desent stuff doesnt have verymuch backing and is underground. You have to hunt for this, a good place is http://www.freethewalls.com there is so much good hip hop in other countries too. Check out some of the pics from oz!

Agreed. Except I would like to add Tupac, and Biggie.

I still like Kanye West though, cause he doesn't rap out his shoes and cars really.

And I like Three6Mafia <.<

i like rap that uses something lonnger than 4 mumbled words as a hook and tries to educate and creat art. Which means about 2 rappers. I like old Busta, he was very original. Most def, other intelligent rappers like that. I dont own any of their cd's, But I respect and appreciate it when I see/hear it.

Three 6 are better than most s'hit out today. I don't care if they're not out there to educate or not. They come up with some of the best hooks out there.

Even though I like Juevenile it was that peroid around 1998 when rap started sucking bad. When the song "Bling Bling" came out by Cash Money Records it seemed to nosedive.

Perhaps it was the ambitious assembly line of No limit albums coming out every 7 days that played a part in it.

Too Short's album with the song "Getting It" and the classic jewel put together by the Goddie Mob "Still Standing" was the last shining moments.

Outkast and a few others can keep it alive.

RIP good Rap 1979-1998

then again there is a HUGE underground rap scene...

nothing "nosedived" why accept what the mainstream media has accepeted or not accepted? there is plenty of good hip hop out there, just because you don't see it being played on the radio or don't see it in some popular context/format doesn't mean it "nosedived" it's still alive and well

And I reckon they make groove-less, intensely pretentious crap with no regard for the history of the artform they're exploiting.

yeah too bad outkast is apparently abandoning hip hop entirely because andre wants to be the next wyclef for some ungodly reason.

oh and you're wrong too.

Groove-less... not as groovy as funk, but certainly not devoid of it. Pretentious... I haven't noticed, but hell I like Ephel Duath so I wouldn't. No regard... I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

DJ Signify - Sleep No More : simply awesome.
Sage Francis - Personal Journals : brilliant rhymes and extremely funny.
Sixtoo - Almost a dot on the Map : thoughtful & intelligent.
Buck 65 - Weirdo Magnet/Chin Music/any album : always cool and clever in Buck's distinctly alt style.

Anticon was the first non-mainstream hip-hop I found, and I've not found anything else good since..... Show me something better.

I don't really like most hip hop but I do like Will Smith and JammX. Especially JammX though, they are such talanted artists for their age. I like Eminem from time to time as well. Especially the video "Just Lose It" (because it has jammx members in it!) you should check out their site at www.jammx.com (just incase you dont have google lol)

The only good rap I can think of is Matisyahu. Religious beatbox reggae is what I like to think of it, and he's actually pretty good. Stuff like King Without A Crown, Warrior, anything else on Live at Stubb's is sweet. I gotta go pick up his new album soon...

Jurassic 5 - What's Golden

Even though some of the song titles are messed up, its still a pretty solid list :thumb:

Im going to add some tracks that I love:

Dr.Dre - Xxxplosive
Basically anything off Eminems 1st album.
Snoop Dogg - Snoop Dogg
Eve - Love is Blind ; I think she is a dope female rapper
Tag Team - Whoomp, there it is!
House Of Pain - Jump around
Llyod Banks - Im so fly
Three 6 Mafia - I gotta stay fly
Eminem and Nate Dogg - Til I Collaspe
Notorious BIG - Juicy
Ja Rule - Put it On Me ( I dont like him too much but I love this track)

Those are just some off the top of my head. I have a billion more but I think you all have a good idea.

In addtion to commercial rap, I really enjoy listening to the freestyles that are spun throughout jungle music. For those of you who are familiar with Jungle (with MCs), I suggest you check out Dillinja and Freaky Flow.
