View Full Version : String help.
I broke my high E the other day, so I restrung the E but my guitar tuner seems to be giving fasle reading for 1E. It always says it is 4D when it is the same tension as the other strings, then I went to tune it up a few levels (made it up to 2B) and it broke again because it was too tight
And it sounds like high E not anywhere near 4D.

Do you have a friend that might have a spare tuner available? If your tuner is broken, that might be a good option...or if you've got another guitar lying around. :)
What sort've strings are you using?

you should learn to tune by ear.i did and i never use a tuner anymore.its way handier and much easier when gigging (when you get there)
Ok thanks, I figured the problem. I just had to strech the high E and wait for a while. My tuner should have shown at least a B, thats why I got confused.

Also, if it shows "4D", with most tuners they can't tell octaves apart, so you may have been the octave above the D string.
If you then tighten up, past the E, past the B, to the E thats at the 12 fret on the top E, the it would have snapped.
