picking out bass from songs?

What do you call them? Bass-riffs? I'm a drummer, so I don't have a clue :D Anyway, I was listening to "Gotta Gettaway" by Stiff Little Fingers, and I though it would be cool to play the bass-riff (or whatever) :) I'm now sitting with fruityloops trying to listen and write down how it's played. I got the beginning sorta right, but it sounds a bit off... Can you guys help me? If you have the cords (so I can get use it in FL) that would be great, but tabs or whatever would be fine too! Anything that helps me :) I'm actually thinking about picking up base, so maybe I'll post a couple of more newb-questions in a while :naughty:

On topic: It'll take some practice and experimentation to hit the right notes, especially if you're new to the bass. Just keep at it, crank the bass up, and don't feel ashamed to ask for help from people who are more experienced with their instrument. A horrible ear for notes has taught me to be EXTREMELY humble about my abilities to tab out by ear.

ok, thanks! Hearing the bass is not a problem, the part I want just has bass and drums, so the bass is very clear. I'm horrible at notes, that's why I quit piano and guitar and started playing the drums :D I'll just keep at it, thanks!

My brother plays guitar and some bass, he can probably help me out! I've been looping the bass line in audacity for half an hour now but I can't get some notes to work :D
