View Full Version : Grade for Flight of the Bumblebee?

Hey guys, what grade is Flight of the Bumblebee for bass? I have no idea.

I have a recordeing of it which I play at faster than the original speed (it was an accident, I forgot what the original tempo was) and it's too fast that it meshes together and you can't hear the cuteness of the bumblebee.

So I will do a re-recording with video next week.

But I am unsure of what "grade" this piece is?

Anyone know, I want to be aware!!!

Oh yeah, I don't know if they have grads in America.

In the U.K. we have grades on musical instruments from Grade 1 to grade 8, I think then it goes to performance grades but I'm not sure.

Sorry I forgot.

Chromaticism isn't a grade :p

jk

I don't know. I personally wouldn't even give it a grade.... Do they have people that decide what grade pieces are?

^ Yes they do, but it varies for every instrument and through every institution, since there is no ultimate grading authority.

As a percussion piece it's Grade 8, so I imagine it would be the same for bass. Grade 8 don't mean **** though  One of the oddest discoveries I ever made.

Thanks Cham!

For some other certain people... it would be cool if you could answer my question as best you can.

Being totally useless is sometimes kind of intriguing but... on my time? I mean, do you have too?

I hate to be cold, but the ammount of bitching I've got for playing this piece is incredible.

You can play it faster then 208bpm? :o
Isn't that the original speed?
So more then 14 notes persecond

Scary.

I am going to assume performance level (above 8). I don't know much that gets harder than that.

^ It is recital level standard, but so is chromatic fantasy. However, nailing a grade 8 piece is not the same as being a grade 8 musician. The exams consist of a lot more than that. But i still wanna hear that recording, it's insane that you can play that. I tabbed out the first page the other day and i can't play anything close to it.

Kudos to you Ben.

Yeah. Judging from grade 8 pieces I've heard, its around that, if not higher.

Seven Nation Army can be challenging, depending on how you play it.

usually there is a Silibus thing that comes out with pieces your allowed to play or pieces that have been graded recently so try finding one of those?

I can't really help you with what grade level that is seeing as I'm over here in the states, but I'm curious.

What did you use to learn "Flight of The Bumblebee?"

im assuming the sheet music because i dont think anyone would be retarded enough to tab the stupid thing.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't think that it would hurt to ask.

I have a Guitar Pro tab for it, though, for guitar. Meh.

there's loads of tabs for it hehe

What's the point in knowing what grade to give it, grade 8 is more than just being able to play Flight of the Bumblebee, my old teacher was given a year to study for grade 8

To all people saying this piece is performance standard or degree standard: Wake up and smell the cheese.

It's not easy to play, but I think the only instrument it is classed as performance standard on is piano, since it uses both parts instead of just the chromatic melody.

im sure if anyone wasted enough time they could learn to play it like most things in life. Personally I don't think anyone here would want to learn it because it doesn't even sound that good and the only people who seem to have actually learnt it are Havic and Riouken. I really don't know why however

thats a silly thing to say.

most concert intrument music only goes up to 7 for one thing...

and for the peice for a concert intrument... its a 5

not really that hard... bit fast though

EDIT: and theres nothing that can be higher then a grade 8.. since thats the highest? duh?

That's nice.

Except, he's asking what grade it would be IF it were classed as a performance piece.

Silly Bob.

I think it sounds good. Its just one of those songs you hear and go "wow". It's different then almost any other song youll ever hear to which is also cool. I may just be weird but hearing extremely technical songs pleases me.

 Performance standard, degree standard and diploma standard are all just names for "above grade 8". You're no longer in the realm of grades at that point.

So it's either 'performance standard', or one of the grades...when he says 'performance piece', he just means a piece that is peformed :p
