Hey, My brother is helping me attempt to fix my first bass... Westone 5 string, i believe it's a Spectrum, but not certain... The neck pick up is broken. It's been a while since i've played it, so i've kinda forgotten the controls, but there are 3 knobs (i believe Neck vol, Bridge vol, tone) and a 3 way PUP selector..

I dont know how i over looked this before, but the control cavity is a MESS.. who ever had it before me made a real mess out of it. We're attempting to clean it up, and fix the pup problem... but i dont know much about the wiring and everything, and he doesnt know much about guitar's, but he's good with electronic's in general...

Does anyone know where i can get a schematic for Vol, Vol, Tone, Selector?

I have pic's upon request...

Also, i wanna stain my neck black like ebony... i know there is something called... ebonising?.. perhaps?... i googled it but i didint get any "how to" type things....

Thanks!
-Sixner

Ebonizer is basically just black stain, I think. You apply it just like any other stain (scuff sand, brush it on, let dry, reapply, sand to smoothness).

If you have a pup selector I doubt its vol-vol-tone

Probably is master-tone-tone.

That wouldnt make sense doug.

VVT w/ a 3-way makes perfect sense. Its just like 2VT w/ 3-way, except with a master tone. See: Epiphone Exlporer (guitar).

Yeah that makes no sense at all...I'm with Lews on this one.

Schecters have vol/vol/tone on some basses. I'll do some digging on Google and see what I can find you, sixner.

Check the lessons/articles section on here, too...there may be something there.

I know when I did the PUPs in my J Bass, I basically soldered one wire to one volume pot and the other to the tone pot...I think. I did that twice for each PUP, so each volume pot had one PUP soldered to it and the tone knob had 2 wires soldered to it...I'm not 100% sure, though.

Check out www.guitarelectronics.com for the schematics. The site should say something like Guitar and Bass wiring on the lefthand side of the homepage.

lots of basses have a blend pot, like the newer jazzes, or if you get a stu hamm bass like mine they have a pu selector, jazz/jazz with p/ p alone

I dont have a schematic (nor can I draw one, Im horrible at it) but I think what you want is this:

-Neck Pup to Vol
-Bridge Pup to Vol

-2 Vol to Pup Switch

-Switch to Tone

-Tone to Output

^ I'm pretty sure that's how I did it for my VVT Standard J, so it sounds right to me...
