a quick footswitch question

i have two peavey amps, both of which are not made anymore. i do not have the footswitch for either. can i use another footswitch for the amp?? and if so, does it matter what brand the footswitch is?? for example, use a fender footswitch made for fender amps...

okay, well what if under the footswitch info it says:

Use with Bandit 65/75/80/112, Special 112/130/150, Studio Pro 112, Envoy 110, Bravo 112, Classic 50 Head, Classic 100 Head, TransTube Envoy, or Protege.

and its not any of those amps...
