Hey more of a general question,

just wondering cause i've been doubting myself lately, Where do you guys hold the pick?
Meaning where does your thumb rest on the pick (how much space is left)

I mainly hold it about half and half, which is pretty comfortable.

To add to that, is there a special way to hold the pick or place your thumb while you do pinch harmonics and other tricks

In my hand

=\

I cant really explain how I hold it, I would need a pic to show you, the comfortable way, is most likely the right way since its mostly preference.

there really is no wrong way to hold a pick, if your just play'n normal stuff (not pintch harmonics), if its comfortable, and it works for you its fine.

In the regard of pinch harmonics now, its a little trickier. most people say that the tip of the pick should should barrely be hanging over the the thumb.
I can do them no matter how i hold the pick though, because i dont do them like most people. the way i do it, i usally hold the pick with about 3/16" of pick sticking out, and when i go to do a the pinch, i turn my thumb MORE (not completely) towred the ground. Sorry im not sure how that make me create a pinch, I think its cause i change my attack, but if your gonna try it my way do try for to long. I dscovered this way on accident, and you might be better of doing it the normal way.

**i do not consider my self a athority on pinch harmonics, but this way works good for me**

Halfway is good but it is easier to play fast if you just let a little pick show

Is it a bad habit to hold a pick loosely?

yes, because if you do then you might drop it when you are playing, which is really bad during shows and stuff. dont hold it too hard though either. like people said before, just make it comfortable.

I try to hold my pick so that it's turned on it's side. It more or less glides over the strings that way, and you can really build up a lot of speed. However, I find myself missing strings I try to pluck pretty often when I'm playing a few songs that require shooting up and down the neck really quickly, between all of the strings. I guess every style has it's downside... :-\

Teeth ftw

I wouldn't worry just hold it comfortably nobody will really care.

i hold it between my thumb and index finger at angle so it almost points toward the bridge , my thumb covers the top part of the pick meanwhile my index finger covers the top back but not all the way across the top, i use the small jazz picks because they have awesome grip and are easier to play with

my thumb goes across the pick leaveing about 1/3 of it exposed and then I strum/pick like normal

I put them on and tune, then stretch, retune, stretch, retune.. and keep going until they don't detune from the stretching.

Small jazz picks? And do all new strings have to be stretched for a while?

i think all jazz picks are small, i use the dunlop jazz 3's in red and black but i like the red grips better. and new strings have to be stretched

these are them, the reds are made from nylon but the black ones i forgot

i thought only guitars w. floyd roses need to have strings stretched?

i use small tear drop plectrums anyway, so theres never alot showing (Jim Dunlop Stubbies, 1mm normally, or Gibson tear drops which are the same size and shape roughly) I hold the plectrum futher up my thump when doing pinch harmonics

i try to let only a little pick showing. helps me from not breaking strings.
