so here's the dilemma..
i have a Hohner Jack Bass Custom and i've volunteered to bring it out of retirement and play bass in my g/f's band (i'm a guitarist predominantly but have always enjoyed the odd bass spot) as they can't find a willing bassist.
the dilemma is do i stick with the Hohner or trade it in for say, a Mex Fender Jazz? or how much / what bass will i be looking at to give a comparable sound quality to the hohner. i actually like the feel and sound of the hohner but i just don't like the headless any more...

If you feel as if it's time to grab another bass and move on, do it. A Standard Fender Jazz is a perfect bass for upgrading (new pickups, new bridge, possibly new tuners and you've got an amazing bass) so if you buy that and decide you want a bit more juice you can do that.
I can't find a price on the Hohner Jack Bass Custom, but a Standard Fender Jazz used is like $450, so if you trade it in you'll need about $150-200, methinks.
A Standard J is a really solid bass. The stock pickups are good. The bridge is sort of bleh but you'll be able to live with it. Like I said, you can upgrade it as it's a very upgradable bass. :thumb:
Josh, ever hear about Google?

No problem. It's why I'm here. :thumb:
Yeah, like I said, it's a really solid stock bass but if you think it's time to step it up, you can upgrade it. I've upgraded my Standard J and it sounds like a beast. It's an awesome bass now. You can't go wrong with a modded MIM J. :D

yeah it sounds good, just been looking at them and even off ebay they're still a bit pricey..round about £500..it sounds like a good plan tho..my problem is that the bass players i'm in bands with all have great gear, musicman, ricky, fenders and so on, so i'm a bit spoiled with all these great sounds around me!

i actually find it more manageable and comfortable to play. but once you get used to tuning it at the bottom it's no different style-wise. quite odd at first but you get used to it
