how much to do you reckon you need to spend to get a quality bass? I'm talking below that you can still get a quality guitar, but above that and you're really starting to get something professional.

I reckon for an acoustic it's about £400-500 ish

For an electric I'd say about £650

I know nothing about amps, but I'd like to know, so reply to that one aswell

I imagine we are excluding boutique or custom builds

in that case I would say $1500

an epiphone eb-o is cheap yet its good enough to tour with cream. besides, with proper setup, a cheap guitar can sound good.

Depends.

Some people can get great used deals (JP, Ted), but, besides that, the cheapest basses I've played that I would consider high-quality would probably be Schecters, although, for the most part, I don't like their necks.

Dean have some great models, as well, for great prices.

SOME mid-priced Fenders (sigs and all).

After that, it's mostly $1,000 and up.

He does.

He also never used Epiphone. His EB-0 was made by Gibson not epiphone.

it really depends on the rig..you can have a crap bass and a great rig and sound half decent...but i'd say anything above like $650...excluding teh SR series which are amazing and cheap and i still use my SR506 over my warwick sometimes

It is very personal. One person's perfect bass might cost a couple hundred dollars. Another person might not be happy without a $20,000 Alembic. Never judge a guitar based on price. While price can lead you in a direction, you can find good guitars remarkably cheap.

I think youd have to spend more on an acoustic for the same quality, seeing as theres so much more work. Electrics are about as easy to make as you can get.

That being said, I think ~$500-900 USD for either category.

totally, you have to determine the molarity of the bass to tell if it's any good.

I'd say the really good basses start around good Schecters and MIA or CIJ Fenders.
