Hey all,

I was wondering how to construct diminished and augmented bar chords? I can play major and minor bar chords, and can play diminished and augmented arpeggios, but can't work out the best way to play diminished/augmented chords.

Also, say you're playing in the key of A major, and you play this chord:

E-3
B-3
G-3
D-3
A-5
E-6

Is that the Neapolitan chord of A major? If not, what is?

Thanks

I have no idea what that chord is.

Adim7:
e--5
B--7
G--5
D--7
A--6
E--5

Aaug:
e--5
B--x
G--6
D--7
A--8
E--5
^ That's the best I can do for the augmented chord. In either case, I never play such full chords, preferring Adim7 567x7x and Aaug 5876xx.

Reason I'm trying to find out about these different chords is, a lot of the practical work we do in college is based on improvisation and our tutor claims diminished and augmented chords will come in useful. He also mentioned neapolitan chords, but it was a pretty wooly explaination; guess I'll just scour teh intraweb n see what it comes up with.

A better way is to construct chords as needed. If you know your theory, work from a base of 57x6xx or x57x7x for major chords and 57x5xx or x57x6x for minor chords and just augment, diminish, or extend as needed. :thumb:

musictheory.net has a good explanation for neapolitan chords
