Submitted for your approval is a 1996 (50th Anniversary) Fender Standard Jazz bass, unlined fretless. I bought it used and have kept it in good condition and have done some things to spruce it up during it's time with me. But unfortunately we must part due to some unforseen financial upsets (tuition, textbooks, art supplies, car insurance) and drama.
When I first got the bass it was completely stock and I was thinking about mimicing D'Arcy's Rat bass, but decided against it and thought it would look pretty cool being all black and so I went with that. Bought a black pickguard from stewmac, it was off by like 1/16" of an inch around the control plate area so I cut it with some sheers- it's not a straight cut but it works. It will ship with the stock white one in case you want to order a custom fit guard. I also installed a black control plate, I have the stock chrome one ($5 if you want it included), then came the pups. I installed the EMG J set, sounds pretty nice if I do say so myself- but there is a bit of a quandary... it hisses when the tone knob is all the way up? It could be that I am not used to the active preamp or something because you can balance it out by cutting the volumes at half and keeping the tone you have no hiss. I did try copper shielding, but that didn't do anything so I just took it out. The stock pups were crap, trust me, if you want them a $10 spot will do. While they were in they were really nothing but trouble and it was grounded very oddly. It had a copper piece running from the bridge pup cavity to the bridge (PIC: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ankin/wtf.jpg), I removed that and had a local shop drill a hole for me to run the ground wire through the bass rather than over. They did kind of a messy job (you'll see what I mean if you ever have to take out the bridge pup). Next came the black Leo Quann Bad *** II (filed for 45-105). So essentially it's all the upgrades you probably would have done had the bass been yours. All it needs is a good setup and a new set of strings and it will be ready to roll. You may want to replace the knobs though, they kinda stick off the pot a bit. It's a real nice bass with it's share of dents, dings, chips, swirls and the like but it's in good condition considering it's age (check pics). Definitely not for collectors, it's meant to be played. It will ship wrapped in two gig bags and stuffed into a fender box full of peanuts.
I'm asking $550 OBO, your choice of strings included with sale. If you have any questions just ask, thanks for viewing.
