I am looking at a 1001Rb Gk head and an ampeg SVT410HE cab for a good rig i can keep for ages, the GK heads have that 50W extra just for the tweeter, to stop the horn distorting when getting a bit of growl from the woofers. They have seperate inputs for the horn and the woofers. Will that work with an ampeg cab or do i have to go and by a gk cab to get use out of it, cause they are expensive and dont seem that good... also when you buy a head do cables come with it to connect to a cabinet, and will the cables i buy work for the ampeg head or are they all different, do i have to get a custom one? Also Im from Australia, if i buy from an Australian store will all the power packs be australian even though the products are American? Or will i have to go out and buy a converter aswell... cheers :chug:

The GK should be fine with the Ampeg, but honestly, I say you don't get the 1001RB and just go for the 2001RB...or get the 2001 preamp and the QSC power amp or something (edge will answer this part).

It should work with an Ampeg cab...I see no reason why it wouldn't. :amaze: A GK head can be used with an Ampeg cab.

When I bought my head/cab I didn't get cables, so no, I don't think they do. Head over to Radioshack or something similar and grab a cable. It won't be more than $50 tops for a pretty good one.

I think you'll need a convertor if you buy from an American store but another Aussie on here will answer that for you. :thumb:

Take the GK off of bi-amp mode and run a 2 pin speakon cable from the GK into the Ampeg instead of the GK 4 pin cable. The 2 extra pins in the GK cable carry the horn signal for a GK cab, plugging it into any other cab could damage the crossover inside.

1001RB = pointless
2001RBP + QSC RMX850 = more watts, more tone, same amount of money

makes sense doesn't it :thumb:

^ I was close!

It makes perfect sense to me, edge...

We should be sponsored by GK or something.

Most heads don't come with cables included, just buy them seperately. Where are you buying your stuff from because I would suggest http://www.basscentre.com.au, great guys, good prices. Also for the cabinet I might also look at a schroeder 1212 or 1012, more tone, half the size, lighter and should be just as loud and similar in price. look them up at www.greensquare.net I got my 1212 from there and I'm in love plus they have overnight delivery.

Yeah thats the only reason i wouldnt go for the 2001, hardly anyone does them for good prices in Australia, i dont want a 2x12 cause then i may aswell just upgrade my combo, surely gallien krueger are not the only ones that do that bi amping thing with the tweeter and the woofer? cause buying 2 pin cables and all that is an absolute biatch... any suggestions on better cabs? bass centre is the way to go :thumb:

i dont think that the sepperate tweeter and wofter controlls work on any cabs other than gk. i was asking about this the other day in a bass shop. you can still use an ampeg cab with a gk head though.

On top of that, it will only work on certain GK cabs

So where can you buy the stuff you suggested? I saw the preamp at bass central, but what about the power amp?

You can find QSC power amps all over. musician's friend, guitar center, etc. etc. etc. just look at PA gear to find suitable power amps.

Ah, I was unaware that you could use PA power amps to drive bass cabs. So basically all you need is a bass preamp and it doesn't matter what kind of power amp you use?

Yep, a power amp is a power amp. In fact, the only company I can think of that makes bass specific power amps (tube power amps aside of course) is SWR.

Regarding the preamp, it doesn't even have to be a bass preamp. I use a modified microphone preamp in my rig.

I'm considering the 700RB aswell, everyone reckons it delvers more than enough power...

also, whats a good cab (4x10) other than an ampeg that would cost me less than 800 bucks australian? Been looking at hartke, they do some good bang for your buck, any thoughts?

EDGE: Eden has a specific bass poweramp.
