Welll the singing duties of my band have fallen to me, and I write some good bassline that are quite active for metal. But one of my biggest flaws is being able to sing and play.Yea if i was just playing roots its easy, but when i have active bassline I cant I get it under my hands, I know its gonna take lots of preactice but any other tips?I'd hate to have to sacrifes a good bass because of my crappy cordination.

Bandwise, I'd concentrate on singing first. People are going to notice bad singing before boring basslines.

Yea i know, IM not saying that im going to pick my basslines over singing I mean it would be a shame to have to play simpler lines.:smash:

have a guess?
.... practice! when you've got complex lines, especially syncopated... you need to work on them.... as vocals are the focus, its the bass that your gonna have to make perfect. Learn it so that you can play without looking (which you should be able to do already), and then without thinking... you've got to get it to that point you normally dont want to reach - where you know it so well it no longer requires any concentration, then you can stick vocals over it no problem. If you can work out some sort of timing between the two however thats even better... you probably dont play piano - but when teaching beginners you teach them to learn each hand separately, and then when it comes together they'll realise how each one interlocks with eachother - its kinda the same with this... if that makes any sense. But yeh just keep playing as with anything else in music!
(edit - in case you missed the one useful unobvious tip - it was to work out the timing and the way in which each part fits together)

I can only play and sing certain things, and then only really on guitar.
Just practice. One at a time, then together.

Have "boring" basslines when you are singing. Then have spaces where you can "go crazy."

cooridnate your vocals with the bassline so that each phrase of your vocals coresponds to a certain segment of your bassline, rather than trying to sing over the bassline. few people can sing freely and play at the same time, so they set the two together. this causes them to work as a single action, rather than two actions at once.

During practice sessions, put on a metronome and turn down the volume. Try to play your part and have a meaningful conversation with your bandmates at the same time. Once you're able to do that, singing will be a peace of cake.
