hey,

ive been using an SWR workingman 4004 with the workingman 410 cab, which is 260 watts at 8 ohms, im thinking of getting a second 115 cab to go with it, and i want to biamp it using a carvin XC3000.

would this work? is it worth it?

all i would need to do is plug each cab into a seperate channel and plug the crossover into my amp right?

thanks for the help
- cheers

Um, No.

You can't go from an amplified output in to a crossover then in to another power amp. This would cause major smoke, sparks, then flames.

If you want to bi-amp, you can go one of two ways, both ways start and end the same.

Way 1
Pre-amp
Crossover
Amp
Cabs

Way 2
Pre-amp
Stereo Graphic EQ (2 seperate sets of sliders, 1 set for each channel)
Amp
Cabs

Way 2 is the way I'm currently using. I use the EQ as a crossover. I can set the mid point easier and with more precise control than with a crossover network. By boosting and cutting frquencies above and below a certain point, I am able to send treble and mid freqs to one cab and bass and low mid freqs to another cab.

JP, you need a 2 channel amp (or two amps) though. Dont forget that. Plugging both halves of your xover/EQ into one amp just wouldnt work.

That's a given. I didn't put that down because I figured since it was called Bi-amping, people would figure you either need 2 mono power amps or 1 stereo power amp.

I'll have to be more careful next time.:thumb:

Its a given to you and I, for sure, but how much does this kid know about biamping? Not everything is obvious when you dont know alot of stuff.

No matter what, you need 2 amps. Some crossovers do, some dont.
