So i just got New Breed in the mail, and I want to get started on it over the weekend. I don't have my drum lesson for a few days so I figure you guys can help get me off on the right track..

From what i gather from reading it, you first learn one of the systems, and then you go through and play that system, adding the various melodies on whatever instrument it tells you.

Correct? What else do i need to know to get the most out of this book?

Also, the first "system," you are simply playing 16th notes on the hi-hat, but NOT alternating? That is, you play every sixteenth note with BOTH left and right hand?

Well, i started with this book today, went through a few of the melodies with "system 1," and i can tell this book is going to get pretty intense.

Yes it is. Really study and take to heart what chester talks about in the first pages. The singing stuff, the developing of feel with a click, etc

That's really where the heart of all practice (and the product of greatness) lies, be it new breed or any other book.
