Hello all, I'm a begginner and I play a fender fat strat, I don't really know the details on my guitar but that's another thread I'll make. Anyways, what's the difference between the Les Paul 59 reissue (Priced at around 4,500$) and the Les Paul 58 reissue (Priced at around 2,500$) On Musician's friend they recognize the 58 reissue as 'the holy grail of Les Pauls' but....they then refer to the 59 reissue of 'the holy grail of instrument collecting', Meh, I thought the holy grail of collecting would play better than the 'holy grail of Les Pauls' but apparently that's not entirely the case? This 2,000$ difference has been bugging me a bit since I wish to invest in a Les Paul in the future...someday..:naughty:

I don't know what the difference is, but whatever it is, I'm sure it isn't worth paying an extra $2000 for it.

The differences IMO is the neck profile, the 58 uses an early 50's rounded, the 59 uses a 1959 profile and they have a 60 that uses the 60's slim profile,
I love the 60's slim have it on both my Les Pauls, I hate the 50's rounded, find it really hard to play, not sure exactly what the 1959 profile is.
any way the Gibson site has the guitars with their specs listed its on the Custom Guitar site, here is the 60's and it will let you get to the 58 and 59 spec pages.

As far as pricing goes why there is a $2000 difference in price. On the website the 58 is pretty plain looking guitar, the 59 and 60's has a beautiful book matching.
How ever I would not worry about what some sales man or website says, a beautiful expensive guitar is not necessarily a great guitar, the old Les Pauls are really a pain to play, they weigh a ton, which becomes noticible if you play a gig for three or four hours, the 50 neck as I sad I hate, really like the 60s slim neck which is on very few of the old Les Pauls.
