View Full Version : Amp Question

Hey guys,
I was taking a look through my Fender FM25 DSP manual a little while ago and I noticed that it had support for hooking in music to play while you play. "Holy crap!" was my immediate thought. But as I went to go and test out this extreme new possibility, my hopes were dashed. Apparently I need some sort've cable to hook an ipod up to an amp! Curses.
My question is, does anyone know what sort've cable I'd need to hook an ipod shuffle up to my amp? And, now that I think about it, is an ipod compatible with that amp type? It said it takes CD/MP3 players, so I'd assume that would include ipods.
Any help would be most welcome.

It'll take anything that has a cable. You could theoretically plug a mike in there (but don't quote me on that). Go to Radio Shack or some other capitalist American electronics store and get a cable with one end that fits into your iPod, and another end that fits into your amp. Simple. Should be about $1-2.

Handsome avatar you've got there, friend. :thumb:
Much thanks for the help, although I doubt that Radioshack would pass up a chance to gouge me out've a ten-spot.

^ wrong you need 1/8 stereo to two different colour 1/8. It goes into your aux input.

Pastry Man's suggestion works perfectly, but I would suggest using your stereo system instead if you have an AUX input on that. You need a different cable.
Edit: Whoops, the cable is the one WindowLedge suggested.

So wait, you need to have a cable that fits into BOTH aux input slots at the same time?
I noticed it said that I needed an RCA cable for it, if that makes any difference.

You need 1/8" (or mini, whatever it's called) male to 2 RCA male. Head over to radioshack and they'll hook you up.

Does it have two inputs with one red and one white?
My old amp, a shitty Frontman 15G, has that and all I use it for now is to play my CD player through it. If so, you'll just need a cable that goes into the input of your iPod Shuffle, basically where you plug in your headphones, and then it splits into two wires with one red and one white.

I don't understand, wouldn't it just be less hassle to play along to songs on your computer or something?

not everyone can play guitar in the same room as their computer. I for one, cant unless no one else is home. Im usually stuck playing in my room, which has no computer.

It probably would, but my room's too small for my amp to fit into comfortably.
Yeah, my amp's got the white and red input sockets. I guess I'll go to Radioshack sometime tomorrow and buy the cable.
Thanks for your help, everyone! Drinks all around! :chug: :chug: :chug:

Am I the only one who found that funny? (In a good way, not a laughing at you type of way). :chug: cheers!
Anyway, why not just play the music off a stereo system and just play along? I see no difference except may be the sound quality will be worse on the amp.

AUX inputs on amps require outside level control, so itd have to be going thru a pre first.

Like I said about computers earlier, not everyone has all that stuff in their practice space (like me....all i have is guitars, amps, and a keyboard...oh, and a portable cd player :thumb: )

I may as well, I suppose. I don't really have a computer or stereo system accessible where my amp is, but I guess having music piped into my amp to play along with isn't such a great deal after all. I s'pose I'll spend my money elsewhere, then...
Which reminds me, has anyone here ever tried out a "jellifish" pick? I saw an add for one in an issue of Guitar World a few months back, thought it looked pretty interesting, and was considering purchasing one.
