I'm going to replace all the heads on my toms in the nextt month or so and I'm not exactly sure what I want. I play in an oldies cover band so that deep tom sound is essential. Right now I'm using aquarian perfomance 2's but they arn't easily heard when playing a big show. I was thing maybe just getting Response 2's would help a little with them being heard but since they're two ply I could still get a good low sound. Do you all think that would be the way to go? Any other head suggestions are also appreciated.

g2 coated over g1 clear i think. or clear pinstripe over clear amb. or coated amb over clear amb with moon gel or studio rings on the top.

i wouldn't go with pinstripes, they dont project at all.
They aren't very loud at all.

Pinstripes arent at all much different than an emperor.

they are muffled a bit by the...pinstripe, i had them just last week, trust me they aren't loud.

I had to get rid of them. For studio, they are good they are easy to tune and have a good steady sound, but for live playing, its a no-go

I use to use them for live playing, they did the job. I don't use them anymore though.

if the music you are covering is from around the 60's then go with suede emporers with no reso. Ringo star did this with his drums when he recorded "abey road" ang the soud you get is called a pudding drum sound.

im currently using the performance II's as well, and they sound great on recordings, but as you said, they don't get through the mix very well live. I would go with the response II's becuase you can tune them loose and still get the sound you are looking for with some resonance and ability to cut through the mix.

Coated Ambs/Clear Ambs are very loud combo. They are also very versatile.
Coated Emps/Clear Ambs are a little less projecting, but are still great.

The main difference is the attack: Emperors have more than Ambassadors.
