Finally, after many years of waiting, Dissection is back.

For those who don't know, Dissection is the definitive melodic black metal band. Hailing from Sweden, they made a name for themselves through the albums The Somberlain and Storm of the Light's Bane, the latter of which is an essential extreme metal album. In 1997 the band broke up tempotarily due to Jon Nödtveidt's murder conviction and 10 year sentence. But upon his release in 2004, the band reunited, having already recorded and released the Maha Kali EP with Jon still imprisoned.

Dissection has recently played two European shows to bid a permanent farewell to their melodic black metal and continue to play in a more Gothenburg-oriented style. After more than 11 years in the making, their new album, Reinkaos, have been finalized. The album will be released April 30, 2006, on the band's own Black Horizon label.

Tracklisting:
Nexion 218
Beyond the Horizon
Starless Aeon
Black Dragon
Dark Mother Divine
Xeper-I-Set
Chaosophia
God of Forbidden Light
Reinkaos
Internal Fire
Maha Kali

Rough mixes of two samples from the album have been posted on the band's site:
Xeper-I-Set (http://www.dissection.nu/temp/DissectionXeperISetRoughmix.mp3)
Starless Aeon (http://www.dissection.nu/temp/DissectionStarlessAeonRoughmix.mp3)

I absolutely love the band's old work, but Maha Kali was pretty awful. While that release had Gothenburg elements, this new stuff sounds purely Gothenburg. It's no Storm of the Light's Bane to say the least, but I'm liking this...or maybe I'm just so glad that it's better than Maha Kali. Anyhoo, I figured Dissection is a big enough and good enough band to deserve their own thread, so let's all celebrate (or mourn, depending on what you think of the new stuff) their return! :chug:

The old material is ok, but one of the new tracks I heard was crap.

New stuff is decent at best. It's all about SOTLB and the Somberlain.

Not here, but I may upload Storm of the Light's Bane for the DU.

Probably Maha Kali. Easily their worst song ever.

I kind of like the new stuff. Jon's voice is still pretty good and they're more unique than other Gothenburg bands around right now. It's memorable but still sounds heavy and has the atmosphere that reminds me of their old stuff.

Nice timing with the thread, as I got told I should listen to some Dissection yesterday. It'd be really appreciated if you did send out SotLB with the Daily Upload.

FINALLY!

I love Dissection. One of the few Metal Bands I'm still listening to these days. This is good news for sure!

EDIT: I listened to the uploads. WTF Are they Hardcore now?!?!

Yea, this new stuff will be interesting to see. Right now it's hard to tell. I'm liking those two new songs quite a bit, but for some reason they're using Maha Kali for the album and I really don't like that song.

I think they made a nice transition to this new style. They didn't make a Children of Bodom switch and go from one thing to something completely different; they managed to shift without sounding like a completely different band.

It's tough for me to say. IMO they do sound like a totally different band listening to those two songs. Before they were good solid Melodic Black Metal, and now they're almost straight forward Gothenburg (Like you said in your post Shadows).

They sound decent or slightly above avarage for the modern gothenburg melo death standards but compared to old Dissection these tracks are poor to say at least. The funny thing is that I did expect them to release something groundtaking in the vein of the older days even though I knew that 10 good years passed. Dissection I loved: RIP officially.

Really good band, but this sounds pretty lame that they've turned into another Gothenburg band.

All bow down before Dissection, being what I think to be the best black metal band of all time.

I heard Storm Of The Lights Bane last night. It was pretty decent, although I found myself a little bored by the end. I'll give it another couple of listens, it'll probably grow on me.

aye! Although they're generic melo death now. Why dont they change their name? It will save us from making the discrimination between old Dissection and new Dissection :(

Well they've done pretty much everything except change the name, with all this "Rebirth" business.

Old Dissection is ace. The new stuff, from the samples I've heard is terrible. As good as Storm Of The Light's Bane is, lately I think I prefer The Somberlain.

Well they've already clearly stated to everyone that they are changing their sound, so I don't think they really need to change their name. I'm dissapointed that I'm not getting any more of their melodic black metal though because they just did it oh so well.

As everyone else has stated (and as I made a thread about months ago, thankyouverymuch) the new stuff sucks, whereas the old stuff is some of the best music ever recorded.

bumpity-bump

I finally got into the song "Retribution - Storm of the Light's Bane". It's pretty damn awesome and one of the reasons why I find this band to be black metal's best. The harmonized guitar part at 3:06 is an ear-gasm.

I think thorns of crimson death is the best song on the album.

I think it's the fourth best actually. You just can't beat "Night's Blood" or "Where Dead Angels Lie". You just can't.

I'd agree that "Throns of Crimson Death" is the best song off of SoTLB. Then I'd put "Night's Blood" and "Retribution-Storm of the Light's Bane". Yes, evey song on the album is pure amazing though...

"Pure amazing"...why yes, it is. :thumb:

the name of this thread should be changed to "Let's kiss Storm of the Light's Bane's ***" :)
