I have a bassline written for a song i'm currently working on and i'm writing it in Finale 2006 and saving it as an MP3 before i do a real recording of the song with real instruments.

the bassline is in C minor it's a 4-measure pattern. the first measure is in C, 2nd is in D#/Eb and the 3rd/4th are in G. They are all in octaves, so here's where they are on the bass:

C - 3rd Fret A, 5th Fret G
D#/Eb - 6th Fret A, 8th Fret G
G - 3rd Fret E, 5th Fret D

I want the guitar to be similar, but rather then going lower when it gets to G, I want it to get higher.

Can somebody tell me the names of the chords I need to use to get the guitar written...it's kind of a goth-pop/somewhat hard rock tune, so I don't want a lot of guitar playing...just about a chord per measure or something to go along with the bassline.

Also, I need the tabs for the chords, and it would help a lot if somebody could tell me how to write guitar to bass, knowing the notes I have...I looked up chords on the internet and what I got didn't sound right so I got kind of bummed...

thanks

so . . .
G----------------
D---5---8--------
A-3---6----5---5-
E---------3---3--- ....

no.

G|--5-|--8-|----|----
D|----|----|--5-|--5-
A|3---|6---|----|----
E|----|----|3---|3---

but that's not the rythm and everything...it's 1 measure for each note...since A3 and G5 are the same note, A6 and G8 are the same note, and E3 and D5 are the same note.
if it helps at all, this section of the song is very Cure-like

if I can get some chord names and tabs for them for each measure it would be very helpful :)

I am not sure what you are requesting? You want us to make up a chord progression for you?

http://www.musictheory.net/

GO there and start reading from the lesson entitled 'Introduction to chords' until the bottom of that section.

wow that was a stupid mistake . . .

The default assumption would be to play Cm Eb Gm Gm, but you already tried that and didn't like it? You might have to give us a beter idea of the sound you'r looking for, and we can't write the song for you. You have to do that yourself.

i just don't know how to write a guitar part that sounds right with that. i looked up some chords and i got Cmin for the 1st measure...sounded decent, and i dont want it to repeat itself so much, so i went to D#/Ebmin and it sounded HORRIBLE. i just need to know what to use for it to sound good, or how to decide what i should use...i'll read that thing in a little bit when i have time

edit: to WindowLedge, yeah I know. i don't want you guys to write the song for me. the Cm sounded good, but the Eb minor chord i found sounded realllllllly out of place. i didn't get to the whole Gm section cause I was trying to figure out why the Eb m sounded so wrong.

the bass/drums are really similar to the cure's style, except the drums are on a basic set rather than with all the crazy effects they use...i'd tab out the bass line but I don't know how to write it in tab so you can still understand the rhythm. i did it in standard notation on Finale 2006.
