I just got a Powerstroke 3 that came with a Falam Slam. Who does/doesnt use one of these and what do you think of it? And will i mess up the head if i peel it back off once its stuck on?

I use one and I like it....it also buys some time which is god since them heads are so damn expensive!

If you're using a plastic or wooden beater, use it.

Otherwise, no need for the patch.

I sort of had one... in one of my gigs... it started to peel off, then it fell... now i just have the adhesive backing of it... still stick to the head. Guess it still gives little protection...

I pay $60 for a Powerstroke 3 Bass Batter...

sucks to live on Guam...

I use one. It works. Kinda thick but you cant really notice anyway when youre playing. definately increases head life. Ive had teh head for about a year now and i used plastic beaters on it for a long time.

I don't like the Falam Slams, they are too thick for the sound I want. I use the Evans patches. They are really thin so they barely change the sound of the bass drum, but they protect the head really well. This is just me and my style of drumming though, if you're more of a power-drummer then I WOULD go with the Falam Slams, they are probably the only ones that can take a good beating and still protect the head/stay on.

i use a slug vented bass batter, and love it. adds a slightly more clicky punchy sound.

i use the falam slam for one of my beaters, i have have an Evans AF patch for the other(long story), and i do like the falam slam, the AF is a bit better, but the falam is nice. it is especially nice for me since i use heavy wood beaters, i think if u use felt or wool beaters it isn't really necissary, but it is a must for plastic and wooden beaters IMO

i didnt like the FaleM SlaM ~ good quality but a very "felty" sound to it.

using nothing isnt an option ~ i can break thru a bass drum head in 2 weeks w/o a patch, and yes i use felt beaters.

. . . . get the EVANS AF patch :thumb:

I cracked my bass drum head. Well, it was really just the coating, the second ply was fine. So i bought one with a falam slam pad. Works well, saves the head, looks cool too.

I use a falam slam patch on my remo practice pad.. but that's cause i shed through the head itself.

I use fabric patches on the kit, jus as much durability without sacreficing the tone.

My old falam fell off

So I replaced it with an Aquarian double pad and its working like a charm

Their pretty nasty unless you love pure slappy attack.

The evans AF patch has been the best i've ever used, it's not heavy at all and it's tough as nails.

I use a falam patch with plastic beaters. Definitely increases the durability of the head.

I use the EQ black patch. It works nicely, but I want the AF patch when I find one.

I should try my plastic beaters on the pad, never thought of doing that.

I hated the sound of the falam patch. There was way too much added attack.

i use a slug vented bass batter, and love it. adds a slightly more clicky punchy sound.
Do you you think poking holes in a bass drum reso head with a thumb tack would screw it up? Just wondering if maybe the holes would turn into rips or something.

why wouldn't you use the patch if you are using the felt beater? i use felt beaters on my double pedal and have a double patch, and it sounds fantastic.

You might not need it if you use a felt beater, and different people like different sounds.

I use the felt with the patch and it works great for me but everyone has there own style.

I dont use one but ive used kits that have and it sounded really weird. It was very flat and, ermm its ahrd to describe but when I recorded with one on the bass batter it sounded really nice and punchy.

I think thats weird the way that, when I was playing the kit it sounded weird but when listening back to it, it sounded fine!
