Im pretty jacked! Tonight I got my first major gig with my new band. I've played in a battle of the bands, and a few student concerts (concerts my local music store where I take lessons set's up). But tonight were actually playing a gig on our own. Were opening with a 20 minute 5 song set, then there's 4 other artists/bands playing.
Were pretty much the only straight-up rock and roll band, the other two are Angel (Screamo/Pop-Punk/Metal), Concade (Progressive Rock), Marty Follinger (Comedy Rock), and apparantley last night we found out there's gonna be an acoustic performance from some girl.

Check those bands out tell me what you think, I'm not really into Angel's type of music, but they've got great stage presence. But I like Concade's music, it's very mars volta like.

Thats my bands sites, we don't have any songs on there, except acoustic recordings by me. And btw Im lead singer/guitarist. Im a little bit nervous, mostly because I don't know what the crowd is gonna be like since I think there more along the lines on the emo/screamo type. But I got a bunch of people I know coming so they should be good.
So anyways, discuss whether or not you think those bands are good, and if you agree I have the best voice haha. Or discuss you first major gigs, anything you did on stage that was cool, etc.

I wish I had some form of palpatable musical skill that would let me be ina band :(
Oh and good luck mate. If you find yourself in a tight spot, just ask yourself "WWGD? (What Would Gilmour Do?)" Then make a silly face and pull a face-meltingly emotional solo from your hat. That should help.

Good Luck on the first gig. Those are always fun.
My first gig was in december. We played a A7X cover crazy train and 3 of out own songs.
then we jammed on Seek and Destroy!

May you have better luck then I:
(Gig history for my band:
1st - bassist no-show, played White Stripes covers!
2nd - cancelled by venue/management, who couldn't fund it
3rd - withdrew when new bassist broke wrist
4th - show went fine...promoter lost money on it though, and threatened to beat me up over it. Police got involved in the end
5th - bass drum pedal collapsed part way through the set
6th - troublemakers at the front row kept coming up and fiddling with our equipment.
7th - coming up... *fingers crossed*)
I'm sure you guys will rock out.
My major piece of advice would be to make sure you enjoy it onstage. It's such a thrill. And get close to the crowd, unless they're a bunch of losers.

Angel Lab sounds pretty generic but I guess they know what they're doing.
Concade is decent except for the vocals.

Argh...I'm not a huge fan of being in bands, especially with more than three people. I'd say my ideal band is 3 people at most (preferrably two), all able to play different instruments or do an instrument and vocals. With larger groups you tend to get a lot of conflict on what people want to play, etc. With smaller groups, the jams tend to be more focused, and you have a better chance of sharing aspirations with your bandmates.
Good luck finding a band, though.

Well the show was pretty good I thought. About 50-60 people showed up. We were second, there was a girl doing an acoustic set before us. It was good going second cause after our set a few people started leaving, and by the end it was down to about 15.
But everyone seemed to enjoy it, and I thought my solo's were really awesome (we recorded it), they were all improvised and sometimes there not to good but they were pretty good I thought. And people said for once they could hear me sing, in our jam sessions you can't hear me to clearly because we use a 200watt bass/amp while using the bass as well.
All of the feedback i've got so far was great, I forgot some words, but managed to either sing something from the next verse, or make up some words. And no one seemed to notice the few screw up's we made. Overall it was a good show, and even the band that was being dicks to us said we did a goodjob. That was the most impressive part, hopefully we get some more gigs soon.

Nice going man.
My band's got our biggest gig coming up on the 8th of March. We're playing at a venue called The Cathouse in Glasgow and we're playing with a band called Think:Fire who have a pretty big following so we should get quite a good crowd there.
We're pretty excited for it since we've only been together for five months and I've personally only been in the band for three weeks.

i totally agree with you
right now, im in a 3 piece prog metal band, which, i mean, is pretty good, were having fun. and i intend to stay with them
but what i really want is yeah like you were saying just me and another dude who can play excellent piano and vocals (and maybe a decent studio/recording space) and i can take care of the other instrumentts and some vox and we can make good recordings with good production etc.
the problem is i cant really find someone at the moment who is talented enough/shares the same musical taste and image as me
