Do you think having a boom stand for a ride is necessary? If positioning isnt much of a problem, will a straight stand work perfectly fine?

Yup, youll be fine. I used a straight stand for a long time. Just make sure the washer(s) can handle the weight of a ride. I ended up breaking mine.

I personally dont like strat stands...Boom stands allow you to move the cymbal almost anywhere..But for a ride, it really dosent matter. The ride needs to be in a easy position to get to so its just a matter of personal choice

Yea, it kinda depends on where you put it. Like mine it goes kinda over the bass drum and a straight stand won't fit between my floor tom and my bass drum.
But that's just how my set-up works.

It should work fine. for me its all boom, i find boom stands make everything tighter on the inside without being tight on the outside.

This is like asking if you have to put your hi-hats on a remote hat stand. Both will work, its just personal preference and adapting to the set-up you want.

I use boom stand for my ride and i place it where a middle tom should be( i play a 3piece drumset). So in our rehearsal studio the drumset has also a rack and that fact is b*llbracking because i can't adjust the height of the boom stand a little above of the bass drum beacuse it hits the rack!
