I don't know how to class weezer....

They're like a different form of pop-punk, the vocals aren't light, but they're not like most of the stuff you hear.

Personally I think they're great, great guitaring with a nice tune.

What are your thoughts on weezer?
(p.s. no mindless bashing just to stir up an arguement)

They're pop-punk.

Just because the vocals aren't light doesn't mean it's not pop punk. Just look at IC era Thrice.

I just consider them an "Indie" band, or a pop-rock band

I honestly can't stand this band. I find their music to be rather boring, and really haven't been able to get into them.

I don't listen to them, but they had that one hit song back in like the summer, and I thought it was catchy. I probably wouldn't mind them.

If you are referring to "Beverly Hills"... ew.

That's the one.:p

I thought it was catchy when I heard it. Then after hearing it for like the millionth time, it wasn't so catchy. My sister has that CD and I think the only reason she bought it was for that song. I remember listening to the other stuff and it wasn't as great.

I like them anyway. They have some hella-catchy songs, although Make Believe is, how can you put it, quite gay.

Yes. Like, it's so ****ing monotonous and boring. And the song means absolutely nothing because they're easily famous enough to live in Beverly Hills so what the ****.

Blue Album is good. I pretty much grew up listening to it. I can't stand anything else.

Blue Album and Pinkerton are two of my favorite albums all time. Certainly not pop-punk though. one might call them powerpop, pop, poprock, indie, rock, etc. to each his own i suppose but definately not pop-punk ;p

Weezer's not indie; they're signed to Geffen, and Geffen is part of Interscope.

I wouldn't consider Weezer pop-punk either for a few reasons: a) Blue album, b) Pinkerton, c) Weezer's isn't awful enough to fall under pop-punk, and d) pop-punk is a stupid genre, if one would even consider it a form of music.

A more fitting, but slightly stupider name would be "slacker rock," which is what bands like Pavement were called once upon a time. The term really only applies to the first two albums, which is excellent because Weezer died after Pinkerton. None of their post-'90s work holds a candle to either Blue, Pinkerton, or the b-sides and demos from those "eras."

Or one could take the easy way out and just call them pop-rock, because at least three fifths of their catalog is, in my opinion, accessible to anyone that cares enough to listen.

Don't judge Weezer on Make Believe because none of their albums sound alike, except for maybe a few tracks on Green and Make Believe, which are their two ****tiest albums. No, wait, that's Make Believe and Maladroit.

To the person who said "Beverly Hills" is the only song off Make Believe they thought was good, or something: you're an idiot. "Beverly Hills" and "We Are All On Drugs" are the worst songs on that album, and that's not arguable. It's fact.

Pinkerton > Blue > a lot of stuff > AIDS > Green > contracting every STD known to man > Make Believe > contracting any STDs that will soon be discovered > Creed > Maladroit > every pop-punk band.

Yeah, I can name about 20 pop-punk bands who are better than Weezer's Blue Album and Pinkerton. It'd be nice if you didn't insult something you probably know **** all about.

not my favorite band, but I do enjoy rocking out to Jonas or Surfwax every once in awhile, with a little Say it aint So thrown in there to spice things up

You know aboslutely nothing about pop-punk. Don't come in here and try to act knowledgable when, in fact, you are not. You're an idiot.

Hahaha, truth.

But at least on your forum, people don't mindlessly bash genres they know nothing about.

I'd say Pop Rock, although I'm not picky. Might listen to a bit of their stuff after my Museathon

I'd say pop-rock.

I'd also class them as awesome.

I don't mind weezer but generally, their songs are very monotonous. When I heard some of their songs a while ago, I bought Pinkerton thinking I would be able to get straight into it, but it turned out they were an acquired taste. So as it was, it sat unattended in mu room for a while until I decided it was time for another go, and then it was pretty cool. A lot of the lyrics are pretty ****ing creepy/hilarious/devious pedophile-esque...
And I'd classify them as power pop- the definition of that being pop with guitar solos, the ususal power chords etc. Can't really remember but I know I decided at one point that was what I thought they were.

You have a point. i've loved Weezer from the start, but I know it can take a while to get into them. Rivers Cuomo is one of my lyrical heroes though, he's a genius...
