I'm looking for a new drum kit and want something all-maple but that isn't gonna cost me like 7 and a half million quid... Any suggestions? I know Sonor 3005s are all-maple but can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that sells them. Also any suggestions for other kits are welcome.

Yeah...Mapex Pro M is a great kit, equal to the Sonor in almost every way...there was a review written by Damo on here...i'll try and find it...
EDIT: http://drum.com.au/reviews/dec05.pdf
I understand that Gretsch is coming out with an all maple kit that's really cheap because it's made in China.

I think Gretsch has decided to try having some better quality products built there. The store I go to is getting one of these new kits and we will see if it works. Supposed to be a 6 piece all maple for a little over $1000 Cdn. It's actually a 5 piece but there is an introductory offer that includes a 16" floor tom for free or something.

That'd be a bellset.
Also referred to as a Xylophone, mind you a small version. Maybe you can tell me the difference because I have never heard the term bellset.

Bells I guess ( or glockenspiel ) is made of metal bars which resonate by themselves ( except for you hitting them ) While a xylophone are the same concept, but instead wooden bars. Often underneath a xylophone is like a tube like microphone doohiky ( for lack of a better term ) that helps it project more.

I guess you could do that. You could also call your Crash a high-hat, although it's not preffered.
Well not many people would know what I was talking about if I said bellset but at least I know what it is now so thanks.

No problem. I guess it isn't neccesary if no one knows what it is. I keep telling everybody at my school that I get my Oriental Crash Of Doom today, and their like what? I tend not to specify unless I know if I tell them I won't be wasting my time.
I love the crash of doom. I might get one still but I'm not sure which one.

You can get custom build drums in australia made to your specs & any wood you want in any configuration cheaper than you can get any top line kit from a retailer.

I wanted an 18" kick and it was going to cost $1800-2200 for DW/Yammies/Mapex , his price blew those prices away AND im getting it done as a Jarrah shell with AAA Figured Sapelle Pomele as my finish

Well, I can't attest for everythign made in China, but the Sonor Force 3005's are made there, and I think they sound really good. Don't get me wrong, the German made Sonor's are much better, but I don't consider the 3005's low quality at all.

I'm sorry for hijacking this thread, but a **** percussionist should know the difference between bells and xylophone.
Thanks for explaining Lime. The "thingies" underneath the WOODEN bars of a xylophone or marimba are called resonators.

I have the 20. It's nice. Uhh yeah ;). Havn't tried the 18. Bought the 20 blind, very dark and washy, makes for a nice ride with a nice bell, wouldn't be my main ride though. Very good choice. It will probably go well wiht your cymbal setup ( which i've seen ). See Zildjian, their fairly accurate with the audio.

I'm no percussionist, I just happen to have a bellset.

I've tried both and the 18 is more versitile but the 20 is still very cool.

Yeah that would be nice but I have bought too much stuff lately and I have to take it easy so neither will be joining my kit any time soon.

Yeah I understand. I'm currently broke:( But it was worth it. And I would try to learn the different instruments as Billdrum said, even if you arn't a REAL percussionists, as apposed to just a drumset player, it's one of those things you have to know, do.
That's what I am doing but I wasn't sure of his point. I'm not sure if he thought I was some noob or something.
