I get a really bad buzzing sound, expecially when I try to play faster or on the higher frets. I brought it in the music store & they "fixed" it for $10, and it was ok for a while, but now it's back to how it used to be! Am I playing it wrong or something? I hold the string down close enough to the fret but I have to hold it down really hard or it buzzes.

If it was ok for a while than it means that there's something on your bass slipping. What kind of bass do you have? I know that usually to fix fret buzz on the higher frets they raise the action of the bass. Lots of lower and middle end basses have problems with the screws in the bridge. That is to say, because the bass vibrates so much, the screws slip. I've heard tell that if you get some purple screw stuff at the hardware store you can fix the slipping problem. For now, i'd raise the action on your bass. It's fairly easy to do and you won't have to pay the music store anymore.

I found something online about it, but it was so confusing I just went to the music store. I tried to fix it before I brought it there but I probably messed it up more..
I have a peavey millenium bxp. maybe it wasn't better for a while, maybe I just thought it was because I didn't want to think I paid $10 for nothing!
but either way, I don't think i'll be fixing the action anytime soon. :(

Wow, I registered here to ask the very same question! The music store isn't any help to me either

Buzzing or how to adjust the action?

Adjusting the action seems really scary at first, but it's fairly easy. I know i was scared of touching the bridge for the first 4 years of playing.

Ok, so the bridge, the metal thing at the bottom where your strings are attached. The things the strings are sitting on are called saddles. On either side of the string is a little hole. You're going to need an allen wrench to fit the whole (Although one should have come with the bass, you can get them cheap at the hardware store). Simply give the hole 1-2 turns, then the other hole. This raises the string. This will not break your string, but it will send it out of tune. Retune and play a little to see if it fixes the problem. I'm sure you can tell which way is up or down. If the hole seems to be sinking into the saddle, then your action is being raised. If there's fret buzz on the upper frets, then you should raise your action.

Much appreciated:thumb: However, I'm an idiot and physically in capable of reading "left" and "right"... So, is it clockwise=lower counterclockwise=raise? Thanks!!! I never get them right, ever.
