Hi all,

I have just purchased a snare to add to my kit and as a result have a gretsch blackhawk snare in perfect condition just sitting there doing nothing.
I was wondering if people had any suggestions as to what i could do with this snare.

Obviously i have already thought of selling it but i was wondering if i should refinish it in a natural tone ( it has quite a nice grain on it) and if it looks good continue the refinishing project with the rest of my kit (except the new snare). Im leaning towards the refinishing option as i dont think there is much of a demand for begginer snares so i might aswell give it away.

Thoughts anyone? any other options?

How much would you sell it for??? Im in need of a snare (literally, I dont have one lol) so what are you palnning on asking???? and if I dont buy it lol, id say refinish it with a natural tone like you suggested, should look cool.

Sell it, Or use it as an AUX snare.

I would refinish it, a natural finish looks great. Then use it as a 2nd snare on your set.

would it work as an aux snare, its almost the exact same dimensions as my new snare, note : i hate the sound when the snares are off. I think im gonna go with the test refinishing thing. I would love my kit with a natural finish.

White i dont think it would be worth it... you would probably being paying as much for postage as you would for the actual drum

Does it include steeling the janitors keys?

Timbale ? Take the resos off , put on a one ply head and give it a good crank. Also yeah, refinishing's fun. Question: If you get paint on the bearing edge or the inside of the shell, will it affect it ?

You coudl tune them differently, maybe crank one up and have another one with a "fat" sound or something. mine as well put it in your kit to fool around with to see what you think

Hey, just an update.

I decided to us the snare as a test run for my plan to completely refinish my kit in natural tone (not too mention wood bass hoops). I got right into it and have stripped the shell, removed the wrap and all remaining glue (not an easy task). Im halfway through sanding it and will go and by a suitable laquer tomorrow.

Will post pics when it is dont and i find out how to actually post them.

another update.
Just finished the sanding (so happy my dad just bought an electric vibro sander) and applyed the first coat. Its gonna be quiet a cheap job as i only had to pay for the laquer (like $15 au). Its looking sexual already!

Hey everyone,

Ive just finished my little project and put all the hardware back on. Havent even re-tuned it yet because the only other spare head i had was an emp so i didnt wanna bother (emp is on for visual effect).

Its a 14"x4.5" gretsch renown maple i just picked up over ebay. 10 ply. The whole "gretsch silver seal" thing going on. Remo CS over clear amb. It came with an Emp on it, i switched it with my old CS but im picking up a coated amb for it tomorrow. Awesome tone. Im really happy with the pick up.

The sigs are awesome, the only problem has been me realising how much better cymbals can be. The 302 crash and ride is really not holding up. A new ride will definetly be next.
