RULES
1. This is a punk forum, first and foremost. We discuss punk and it's sub-genres and the bands contained within those sub-genres. We talk about both the music along with the lifestyle, ideologies, and clothing.
2. Certain bands should not be talked about in here. They are:
Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Brand New, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, Sum 41, etc. These bands belong in the well-maintained Pop-Punk forum. Additional bands are Nirvana, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, etc. These bands belong in the well-maintained ]Rock & Metal Forum. These lists are in no way inclusive, if you think a band doesn't belong here, chances are it doesn't.
3. DO NOT mindlessly bash any band a or genre. If you do not like band you have two choices; do not post about that band, or explain why you do not like that band. Saying a band sucks without reason is considered bashing and you may be banned.
3a. Conversely, do not complain or bash people who happen not to like a band you do not like. Chances are they have their reasons, if they do not give a reason and continually flame the band, please report it to the moderators.
4. ALL OF THE MODS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CLOSE ANY THREADS OR BAN ANY USER FOR ANY REASON WE FEEL APPROPRIATE.
In general here are some basic rules you should follow while posting.
1. Make sure your posts are constructive and friendly.
2. Spell correctly (better explained in rule # 8)
3. Do not have long drawn out arguments/flame wars with any user or any mod
4. Do not insult a person based on their join date, post count, avatar, user name, etc. No e-elitism.
5. When you first join please take a few days to just look over the forum and learn how things work. You have to wait 24 hours to make a thread anyway, so take that time to learn the ways of the forum, you will benefit from it. New users who know what's up are respected and accepted faster then new users who do not.
6. Do not spam the forum. Spamming constitutes any off-topic threads or posts that aim to derail a thread off the current topic. If you'd like to say something off the topic of the thread or off the topic of punk, post in The Community Thread: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155997
7. When making band threads, please refer to this thread: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328538 for tips on how to make a successful band thread. It is also helpful to search the forums for a thread on the band in the last week or (as per rule 12). Threads made following the above linked guidelines will be more successful than threads that just contain "who likes this band?" or similar. Who knows, maybe your thread will be so successful it will become the official band thread.
7b. There is official band threads for these bands: The Clash/Joe Strummer, Leftover Crack/Choking Victim, Dead Kennedys/Jello Biafra, Streetlight Manifesto/Catch 22, The Clash, and AFI. Do not make new threads about these bands. Any discussion about these bands or the side projects of these bands should be limited to these threads only.
8. Spell correctly and use basic grammar rules. You don't have to be an expert, but make your posts readable and try to be as correct as you can. Using Internet abbreviations such as "u" "r" etc are not accepted. If you are caught spelling this way you will first be warned, if you do not heed the warning, you will be banned.
If you need help with spelling or grammar please visit these sites:

Guidelines for Learning to Spell and Six Ways to Practice Spelling: http://www.ldonline.org/ld_indepth/teaching_techniques/spelling_studying.html
Note: Spelling with abbreviations is not quicker. It seems that way because you are used to it, train yourself to spell properly and you'll type at the same exact speed had you used abbreviations.
9. Never ask us to name your band!
10. Do not make a new thread to advertise your band, please post it in the appropriate thread: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=271417. I'm tired of merging band threads into that thread, so from now on, if you make a new thread for your band, it will be deleted, if you remake it, it will be deleted and you banned.
11. Do not post in threads that warrant a close. We have a Problems/Suggestions/Questions thread for a reason. If you feel a thread needs to be closed, please link to it in Problems and a mod will close it as his earliest convenience. Posting in a thread saying it sucks or should be closed is not helpful to us and just keeps the thread active for longer. You will be banned if you did this.
12. Do not bump old threads. Especially bad ones. A general rule is any thread that is found past the 3rd page of the forum or the last post was made a week prior to your posting. Exceptions to this are threads linked in these rules and certain band threads.
13. There will be no sharing of files illegally through You Send It or other similar web sites. Mailing lists fall under this category. If you wish to find files of a certain band, ask in a band thread for the thread starters Soulseek, AIM, MSN or similar name. You can also ask in the community thread.
14. Do not bug the mods on either their instant messaging services or soulseek names about you being banned or a thread being closed. Chances are the mod will give you a reason. If you are not happy about it, either deal with it or post in Problems/Suggestions/Questions. But it usually doesn't accomplish anything.
15. Certain threads are not allowed in this forum. For several reasons.
For general spam content/stupidity
Introduction Threads
Picture Threads
Band X Vs Band Y threads
Who is a better [instrument] threads
Whats your favorite song by Band X threads
Threads asking what punk 'is', 'was', if it is dead, etc.
For flame wars/arguments that promote hate among users.
Vegan/vegetarian threads
Straight edge/drug use threads
Political threads.
(For these you can post about them in the Social Issues thread: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=427178, or you can post about them in the Politics, News, and World Issues forum if it doesn't break their rules)
These threads will be closed and thread starter and posters run the risk of being banned.
16. If you are having problems with a certain moderator or user, you have a few choices. You can report them in the Problems thread and wait for something to be settled or you can just let it go, take some time and cool off. The second method is preferred because we tend to get worked up and blow things out of proportion, making it worse for all parties. If you lay off the person you have a problem with, they may also settle down and things will return to normal.
16a. Requesting a moderator be demodded because he has wronged you is not going to get you far. No moderator has ever been demodded as per the request of users, it is the decision of the moderators and administrators to decide who is a worthy moderator and who isn't. Reporting stuff like this in the MusicianForums forum will only cause drama and make the problem worse. If you truly have a problem with a moderator, IM or email one of the administrators of the site (mx, Double Bass Jim, and Wintermute) and they will be able to help you.
17. This shouldn't be a problem, but if a supermod comes in here and closes something or ban someone, he/she obviously had a good reason, so don't complain.
18. Last of all, have fun. The punk forum can offer many chances at new friendships, new music, and good community if we can only avoid drama, tension, and meaningless problems.
