acrylic drums

So i was looking at Modern Drummer yesterday and noticed a bit more than the usual adds for acrylic sets. I've never even seen one in my life, so i would like to know what type of sound they give off and would it be worth the money to go ahead and purchase a whole acrylic kit, snare or toms.

they do look nice, especially clear or smokey ones with clear remo CS heads. that being said u should know this, they are very difficult drums to tune, but if tuned right they sound pretty good, the toms and basses get a good fat sound out of them, and the snares have a neat crack to them when set right. that being said, i have always felt that wood drums are better, and acrylic sets were more for show, but that is just where personal prefrence comes in. but i definatly would not buy an acrylic set without trying it first

Ive never played them, but what i hear is exactly what hellmo said, they look "cool" and everything, and can sound reallly nice as well, but are hard to tune well and get a good sound out of them. I personally would just stick with wood, but it would be pretty cool to have an acrylic kit, not too many people have one so it owuld be different.

really boomy, with a pitch right between maple and birch. Personally I dont like acrylic toms and bass, but I love acrylic snares

I really like a 4 peice with different colours of acrilic. Looks very fun to play.

they're pretty good, go check out Pork Pie acrylic snares, they are pretty sweet, and of course there are the ludwig vistalites
