Guys I need help...
I have my good ol' jazz copy right..and a month or two ago I thought about defretting it...so I take out all the frets...they all came out well. But I never got around to filling in the gaps and finishing off the job...
SO now I would like to get the frets back in, I dont want it fretless...how do I go about getting the frets back in?
I still have the frets somewhere...
Anyway of getting them back in without having to spend a large sum of money getting a pro to do it?
PS I could take pictures if you all want.

Goon + Coke = Sweeeeet.
TS, looks like you're gonna have to get used to fretless. Hehe, i had 2 p-basses and defretted one of them, so when I got sick of the fretless, I just swapped the necks and put the fretted one on the good bass.

Getting a new neck would be better and cheaper I suppose. Really, I don't think you can put them properly back in the neck.

The hardest part about this is going to be figuring out which frets go back into place, but it can be done somewhat easily.
First off, will you ever defret it again?
If not, don't follow step 2.
1. Match the frets with their pre-existing slots.
2. Pour a bit of wood glue into each crack (not too much to where it comes out the sides). This step is optional because, if the frets were pulled out well, the tangs will be sufficient in holding the frets in place.
3. Put the frets back in.
4. Take a tiny plastic hammer or rubber mallet and carefully knock the frets down into place.
5. Take a piece of wood and clamp it to the top of the fretboard (really only necessary for glue users).
6. After frets are in (and glue has possibly dried), take a long, straight object and check fret levels. You can sand out the height imperfections (or leave them if it doesn't make a difference in your playing).
DONE.

Jazz copy... try this neck...
http://www.rondomusic.net/spbneck.html
$40... Just put it on and set it up.
Edit: Well that and tuners, of course.
Edit... again: You might want to see if that neck fits. I just noticed it says P Bass... Is their a difference in size or aren't those parts (other than pickguards and whatnot) interchangable?

123.
most of the time after a home defret, the frets are pretty mangled.
go buy some fretwire (its pretty cheap), and use that to put them back in.
break out the hacksaw and bore the hole bigger................
seriously you are going to have major issues getting the back in yourself

Oh... in that case, I would just leave it fretless.
Fretless basses FTW.

I did it 4 times with my old P-Bass. Of course, I carefully popped the frets out with a chisel each time...
I don't know why they never show that technique. It works FANTASTIC!

Yeah it's cheap wine that comes in a bladder thing inside a box, with a little tap thing on it to pour it out. It's usually used by bored teenagers as a cheap way to get drunk. They chuck the box out and drink it straight from the bag. Our band has a song called "Johnny Goonbag" that we wrote about our mate who loves the goon.
ah, so it's just your standard box wine...with a moniker...

go get a new neck. even if you put back the frets, it will be a hindrance to your playing bec i'll assume that you kinda damaged them already.
