if some people recall, i made a walking bassline thread a couple of weeks back, and for this thread, i'm just posting some pics (lame) of the ensemble i'm working with . . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/kit_kat327/20spicture.jpg
the redhead is the vocalist . . .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/kit_kat327/IMG_0310.jpg
my picture for the playbill handout type thingy (we're playing in a mock Cotton Club)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/kit_kat327/IMG_0319.jpg
a picture every bass player MUST have . . . so anyways, we're doing "sweet georgia brown," "summertime," "in the mood," and "take the 'a' train." i wrote some neat walking basslines for "in the mood" and "sweet georgia brown," and i'll try and post a recording of the whole thing if the tenor sax's cousin would let us use his recording studio . . . wish me luck, we go to tomorrow . . .

thanks! the michael kelly dragonfly has a beautiful tone. by beautiful, i mean like . . . the warmth of REAL wood with the punchiness and clarity of a nice fishman piezo pre-amp . . . the only complaint is that the action past the 12th fret is insanely high, and i need to get the bridge and nut filed out by guitar center . . .

Most acoustics have high action, it stinks :(

the only exception i can think of is my friend's old ovation fretless had some nice, clean, smooth action, but his grandpa filed the bridge and nut out  .

is it a bolt on neck? if so you could fix your action problem rather simply, by putting a shim of some sort in the neck joint. i did it with an epiphone guitar i had. just a few pieces of paper behind there will make a lot of difference.

Have you EVER seen a bolt-on acoustic?
Threadstarter, good luck!
Also, as for the bridge, I would suggest that you file it (it's relatiely easy), but your intonation will be slightly off from the adventure, so best let a pro do it for you.

i live in san francisco, what the hell do you expect :p ? two caucasians, one egyptian, four asians . . .
anyways, the project went fine, we just went today. we were supposed to recreate the 20s in our classroom and do a 45 minute skit, so we just decided to set the classroom up like harlem's cotton club, with lights, apple cider (how i wish we coulda had liquor), black drapery, etc.
we started off with "in the mood," and it went fine. the tempo started out a bit slower than usual, but the drummer sped it up, and the sax's had some nice 'call and response's." it's pretty funny, because the walking bassline i wrote, which was just playing a major pentatonic over the chords, was the SAME as the bassline in the arrangement, only mine consisted of 16 eighth notes over 2 measures instead of 8 quarter notes. on "sweet georgia brown," the trombonist got a bit self-indulgent on his improvised solo (and i think i did too with an ultra-chromatic walking bassline, credits to this forum), and ended it two measures after everyone already stoppped. we ended the song fine though, and moved on to "take the 'a' train," which i didn't participate in. it was a good job on the trumpet's part though, since he's also the 1st trumpet in the school's orchestra/jazz band. we ended with "summertime," which i didn't like too much, because it was too slow, and the alto sax stretched his solo for an extra four measures. there were also some tempo issues, but overall, the class and my teacher, all of whom are non-musicians, loved it :thumb:.
thanks for all the "good luck" wishes guys, i appreciate it :chug: . . .
and for the record, the redhead is as ditzy as a blonde, on par with jessica simpson (she exclaimed "bass" as in the fish during the introductions ) . . .
