I have a Sonor Force 3001 in the blue green lacquer finish. I want to refinish it, but from everything ive seen so far it's only possible on wrapped finishes. Can anyone prove me wrong? I swear there was a guy on the forums that changed the same kit i have to a dark brown color a couple months back, probably in the sonor lover's thread.

Also, since this kit is my pride and joy is there a way to fix small scratches through the paint caused by hardware and general misuse. I've only got a couple because i forgot to tighten my racks toms all the way and they took a chunk out of the bass drum paint.

Thank you

well with a laquer, you have to sand off the clear coat, and the sand off the layer of wood that's dyed, and then dye the wood to the new color, and then re-clear coat.
IMO, unless you know exactly what you're doing, don't.

you can easily find some clear coat fillers. ask around at http://forum.drumshed.org, but really any clear polyurethane applied carefully should work (unless you've made cuts into the wood itself, then that's no good.)

With the degree of difficulty you're describing, it sounds like i don't want to try this. oh well, i really wanted to have a white or brown kit.

Well, it is possible. But be prepared for a LOT of work and a lot of tedious hours. It's also going to be hard on the wood.

See, you don't actually get the stain out of wood, what you have to do is sand off all the wood that has stain soaked into it. And all I can say is good luck with that. Dpeending on how they do their staining, it could be quite well soaked in, which means by the time you figured that out, you will have sanded your way well into the outer ply of your drum.

is this what your talking about cause this would be easy all you have to do is put the bond tape on and put the wrap on and it gets rid of scraches

edit:thers several more pages of finishes on that site

You could always just wrap it...that'd be simple
