I may not have heard much by these guys, but I think they may be my new favorite band.
I'm sure you're all familiar with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Before Nick Cave went solo and formed the Seeds, they were in a post-punk, some might say proto-goth band called The Birthday Party.
Tbqf, they're awesome. Mutiny In Heaven is an amazing song.
Anyone a fan?

Yeah.
The Birthday Party were rad.
Prayers On Fire rules pretty hard.

Alright I'll check them out.
How about Gang of Four?

How about Gang of Four?
I wouldn't so much compare them to Gang Of Four. GoF leaned more towards politics, while The Birthday Party stuck to darker stuff, religion, life, death, etc.

Not just leaned, they swam in politics.
I like them. Their sound tends to be a lot better than their songs though.
There's a lot of Jesus Lizard in there.
Personally, I think, their sound is more of an updated Stooges than JL.

Jesus Lizard is so good.

I've got Junkyard, but I'd much rather listen to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

I'm not a big fan. It's a good sound, it just gets boring after you hear it over and over again.
I have Junkyard, it's a pretty cool record.

Birthday Party is sweet.
Deep In The Woods is a great song.

Man I love this band, best Australian band ever, no contest. I find their sound to be halfway between The Stooges and some of the New York No-Wave bands like Teenage Jesus & The Jerks. The atonal noise stuff, with a junkie lunatic shouting over the top is just awesome. I can't really see much Joy Division in them, JD were always much more reserved and in control than The Birthday Party. Anyone ever seen the film clip for Nick The Stripper? Awesome stuff...

Their self titled LP is an awesome record, Nick Cave & The Seeds are also great, I've got a live in paris dvd, he reminds me of Tom Waits at times.

They're decent enough, nothing to write home about.
