What are good sticks for playing rock? I used to use erskines for jamming and they were fine. I went to a studio yesterday and I had to turn them backwards to get volume.
I used to gig with 5a's but they're similar to erskines and I was mic'd heavily.
I'm pretty comfortable with the Gadd's but rim shots kill them faster then other sticks. Just post some pretty big sticks or what gives sticks the traits that give you more volume.

More volume? Sticks won't do that, necessarily. I use the same sticks for playing in church (ghost notes, AWAY!) as I do for playing metal.
But...
Pro-Mark 5B Jap Oak
Same size as other 5Bs, but they're heavier. Survive rimshots like you wouldn't believe.

I got bought some Zildjian Absolute Rock sticks a few years back. They are a bit weird, but very heavy.

Try the Vic Firth Rock; nice heavy stick with a little extra reach.

Okay, I'll try 5B's but bigger sticks do give more volume. I don't want to get into the physics of it(mostly because I know nothing of physics) but heavier sticks=louder. Thats why the butt of my sticks was louder then my tip

Remember always choose a stick based on comfort
Don't worry about size, how heavy the stick is ect ect... Find one that fits in your hand properly. A lot of people make excuses and say a heavier stick will rebound a lot better... Same idea as a tight head thats simply not true at all. Develop your technique and you'll be able to play the same on a 16" floor and a snare drum alike.
Find a stick thats comfortable and stay with it, there are exceptions hot rods, brushes mallets all of that. But it's really important to find a stick that suits your hand, it may take awhile to find one too.

Most definitely right.
I really like the feel of my VF 7ANs, really thin and fit in my hand so well, theyre really comfy.
Anyway, my Lang sigs. are very very thick and dont fit too well into my hands, however, my hands will adjust or get bigger. As im a teen :D

after hitting the ride cymbal and the hi-hat for a long time heavier sticks tend to hurt my wrists. 5As and 2Bs are most comfortable 4 me

I like a couple, erskines and Gadds are the first too that come to mind, but I like most sticks I pick up.
Different sticks don't really hold me back.
Explain how I can get more volume out of the same sticks. I hit pretty hard/high strokes.

The Vic Firth Erskines are a nice choice. I like those sticks-one of my favorites. They have a very unique feel, and somehow just feel funky (in a good way)
Just experiment, get lots of different sticks. I think it's silly to always use the same kind of stick. That's like painting with the same tube of color all the time.

I think what josiah said in another thread applies. Different sticks are just as good if you practise.

You know what? I think I just realized something...
Focker, in another thread, I'm pretty sure you told me you tune to practically zip... like all your toms at pretty much nothing.
That might actually be your problem, man... tune them up.
I might be thinking of someone else, I dunno...

Any sticks are good actually. As long as theyre plain Oak, Hickory, Maple whatever you should be fine.
I use Sigs, 5As, 5Bs, 7As etc. and ive been comfy with them all and none have been too heavy, they wouldnt sell them if they were like bricks.
