Has anyone heard this guys drumming? He's incredible. He's easily one of the best drummers around.
He played for the aquabats up until around 1997.

He was actually really good in the aquabats. Didnt try to do anything overkill or pretend to be better than he is.

You have heard of him. He's despised on here. He owns most of OCDP and was in Blink182.

Leaving the aquabats mid-tour and joining blink is one the assholliest things you could do.
Not to mention the fact that the aquabats were way more fun, and much better than Blink 182.

I am for the most part
I already know what to expect from this kinda stuff, basic powerchord driven bordom thats been done a billion times over and over. I'll give anything a chance that doesnt mean i'll like it though. The music I listen to has to have content, I have to take something away from it. And honestly that kinda music just doesnt do anything to me at all.

Ah jim how wrong you are. Its a cross between new wave and third wave ska. Its like nothing else ive heard.
Op3r4t0r travis doesnt appear in any of those tracks on the myspace. He ditched the band halfway through a tour nearly a decade ago.

Well my music catalog is pretty large, I try to steer away from the norm as far as music goes. I remember as a kid hearing the same crap on the radio over and over and just hating it. Luckily my parents and family all listened to great music. Rush, Jethro tull, E.l.p, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple all kinds of great music that affected me early on and I credit a lot of that for how I approach drums now. Hearing that kind of stuff early on helped me a lot.
As far as my personal collection goes it ranges from big band <-- which I have a MASSIVE collection of. Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Count Basie all of that stuff I really have a love for. There’s nothin like a good big band to get me goin. Jazz stuff of course good ole Miles, Tony Williams all of that stuff I enjoy especially the new weckl CD! Damn is it GOOD. I like a little metal... Not too much though metal kinda falls into the punk thing where it can be so generic and just makes me Zzzzzzzzz. There’s some great metal bands out there though like Opeth for instance. I wouldn’t even classify them as metal though there one of the few "new" bands that really spark my interest. Every person in the band is an amazing player and their writing is fresh and new all around. Also as everyone knows I'm a huge fan of the progressive realm all formats of it. Early genesis and yes type stuff, rush of course, modern neo-classical styles like symphony X, anrga, DT ect ect...
I listen to a lot of stuff; I enjoy "musicians" music I guess. I have a hard time listening to simplistic music anymore it just doesn’t do anything for me. I know right away if I like something I get a burn to jump on the kit or pick up the guitar and try to mimic what’s played. To me that’s what GOOD music does. Of course this is just me so it doesn’t matter and I certainly am no elitist when it comes to music. I give everything a chance at least once... But for the most part I usually end up saying "well that blows" Then I pop in a rush cd and its back to smiling.

I find a lot of Rush stuff great except for a few tracks which I find weird and quite bad.
Metal is great, punk does all sound the same though, but I still like it.
Metallica are awesome though :)

Also once you start playing, especially if you play something other then drums your understanding and appreciation of music will raise. Understanding a little theory, knowing what it takes to create great parts, knowing whats being played all helps! Thats why I love that kinda stuff!

Well im in a band so I appreciate musicians, whether I like the band or not, simply because theyre musicians. Talented or not, I think its disgusting when someone says that someones elses playing is **** or something that isnt constructive.
Sometimes I like to mess around and say something like
Youre suach an *** and youre really crap but I know people take it the wrong way, especially on the internet.
Anyway ive gone off topic a bit, haha
Ooh, some nice stuff there Jim. Symphony X and Angra are cracking bands. I'd probably go as far as saying I prefer Symphony X over DT. I still love stuff like ELP, Yes, Pink Floyd etc. though.

well, jim, i dig all the music u dig(not so much the big band and jazz, simply because i don't listen much, but i am gettin' into it more and more), but i think u should give the aquabats a try, u will atleast laugh, it's funny stuff, of course ur not gonna get the technicality of stuff like Rush or Syphony X, and sure, aquabats is simple, but it's really like nothing i've ever heard

Arent Symphony X that Gothic Industrial band or am I thinking of Switchblade Symphony?
You must be. Symphony X are like, sort of neoclassical prog metal, pretty technical stuff.

i love symphony x...some of the most talented musicians as well...i never thought i would hear that many notes come out of a guy's guitar who's playing with such chubby fingers! I'd have to say my fave songs by symph x are the accolade and sea of lies...

I definately hear ya, ive played bass for a year now and just got a guitar for christmas, and my music style has changed a lot. Ive been gettin into dream theater a lot lately. haha i was listening to some steely dan that my dad had on the computer, its pretty good stuff, my friends think im crazy its kinda funny, but whatever. (yea... im 15, so obviously all my friends like rap or general "rock" that u hear on the radio)
Is there any way to convince a noobie drummer that Travis Barker is not the fastest, bestest, coolest drummer that ever lived?

Hahahah! I love these guys! They're hilarious! I always did like Ska because while the singular parts might be simple (except the drumming, usually the drummers for ska bands tend to be quite accomplished), the sum of parts gives a really nice texture of different sounds.
Trumpets + trombone +bass + sax + guitar + drums + keyboards....
That's a cool mix. I think that ska is kinda the little brother of big-band.
JIM! You need to listen to the song "Pool Party" about 3:00 minutes in,the keyboardist starts playing a riff from the interlude for "Tom Sawyer" !
Is there any way to convince a noobie drummer that Travis Barker is not the fastest, bestest, coolest drummer that ever lived?
Simple... get a paper bag and some dog poop. Then take the bag, go to his door, light the bag on on fire and huck it through his window. Then ring his doorbell.

No one quite sounds like the aquabats though. The singers voice sounds like it belongs in a dirty indie band
