Hey I searched this and got no matchs....

A few days ago at school I was playing rudiments on my leg during gym when this guy came up to me (he was drumer) and we began talking drums. We were exchanging tricks that we use and he told me his favorite was the heel toe technique. I had never heard of it before was intrigued how he explained it. He said that you hit the bass drum pedal first with your heel and then with your toe in one motion to get two hits. I thought it was pointless because I just use my toe to achieve 2-3 hits anyway but he said that once you get this thing down you will be able to do double bass grooves with only one foot. What do you think? And has any one heard of this before?

PS I tried it and it kind of worked the biggest problem being that my foot too big. because you heel has to be farther up than normal.

There's different ways of doing this. Search again--there are some very thorough threads, or likely the best you're going to find, anyway.

Here, I even found you a lesson. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/lesson.php?lessonid=160

I think its a great technique and its definately a well known.. The double bass part well, it is possible, go to drummerworld.com and look for jojo mayer..

and no ure heel doesnt need to be up further than normal.. its just u suck at it for now.. if u do learn, ull see that u can pretty much put ure foot anywhere.. the "heel toe" name doesnt actaully mean.. u have to use ure heel and toe.. its just a motion and once you get that down, u can do it all pretty much anywhere on the foot board, yes that includes all the way down the bottom with just the ball of ure foot.

I've started learning this, (seriously now, not just mucking around)... its very much worthwhile. If you're a fan of Mike Portnoy or Dream Theater you'll know he uses fills split between hands and feet a lot, with heel toe, you can do it without a double pedal, easy. And when you get real good you can pull off such fancyness as Mr. Mayer does.

If you're not into Dream Theater, get Scenes From a Memory NOW!

Hey! Someone besides me linked to my lesson!

*is proud of myself*

One thing about heel-toe, though: when you first start, your doubles are gonna be slow. Yes, get them faster, but ALSO practice slower doubles.

I wish I had done that now...
