I need some help with solos. Im good at keeping time and grooving and have good enough chops to work around the kit fast, but whenever I try to solo it just seems pretty blah. Do you guys have any tips on getting solos good?

just be creative, take a beat that grooves, throw in intricate fills that build off that groove, slowly transform it from beat into another through fills and do the same with that. Just take rthyms and compliment them with fills. Normally the faster and more complex the bigger the crowd response but make sure it soudns good too

How is that good advice? Coming in and saying im not good enough. Not bothering to give any advice or anything, why don't you come in and help rather then criticize?

some people dont' remember what it was like to suck! apparently they always thought they were good and if you have to ask about a solo that doesn't mean you can't make one. Heck, ::sarcastic dumb hick voice:: "If you have to ask how to read music, you're not good enough to learn how to read music." ::hick voice off::. Shutup you jerks

Try to think melodically. Come up with patterns and melodies and move them around the kit. Use all aspects of the kit, cymbal bells, rimshots, rimclicks, hihat splashes, cymbal rolls, turn the snare wires off.. theres tonnes you can do. Just try to think a little more creatively.

If you need a bit of inspiration, try visiting this site: www.drummerworld.com and watch some vids.

think about it, what was he really asking? im sure he didnt mean it that way, but what can we really answer? the best we can tell him is to take the snare wires off and show off his chop, then move onto a groove section then go onto a big finish.

thats not advice, thats holding the bottle to his mouth and shoving it down his throat. hence why if he has to ask, he cant do a solo yet. not one that would be worth making, the best advice would be to practice more if possible, or plan your practice time better.

how is that the same at all? if you dont know how to read music you ask, and learn the notation. thats set notation, there barely any change to it, all solos are different. theres no right way to do it. if people like it, then its a good solo. you cant tell someone what they like, so theres no way to give a good tip or piece of advice about a solo.
