that's true. but a there a few songs that are fukking good. but most of them get annoying if you listen to them too much. examples -> seek and destroy, master of puppets, ride the lightning... if a band plays a third verse, then it shouldn't be like the first two one. that makes the song boring.

Almost everything's been said and resaid about metallica in this thread. So I'm going to try something new. Please tell me if its not new in here. What's tallica's ost underated and overated song? TLITD and leper messiah are pretty underated. Sanitarium is a great song, but in my opinion a bit overated. Master of puupets could be the greatest metal riffs of all time, but not the song as a whole.

Oh and, the thing that should not be doesn't suck , its just a bit repetitive in my opinion.

Under rated: Ride the Lightning. It's an amazing song, that unfortunately seems to live in the shadow of MoP and FWTBT.

Overrated: Enter Sandman and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Sandman is just crap, and Bellz gets very boring very quickly.

Also, TLITD = To Live is to Die

well, ive been a metallica fan ever since i was 4 (introduced by my dad and older brother) and ive always loved their music, to me it has never gotten old, or overrated, w/e, but thats my opinion, its just great that they are still together, and still rocken. id have to say my overall favorite two songs of them are My Friend Of Misery and Damage Inc.

I think its To live is to die.

*100th post* :)

another guy

i think its Mercyful Fate, which clocks in at 11:11. it is a medley of five (I stand corrected :thumb: )songs by (duh) Mercyful Fate, but it still counts as a single song. and a little side note - its one of my favorite Metallica songs ever.

Squirrel
04-08-2004, 03:08 PM
It's not 3 songs - Satan’s fall, curse of the pharaohs, corpse without a soul, into the coven, and evil - it's 5. And its not the longest - The Outlaw Torn is the longest ( when it was written - it was edited to fit on the CD ).

another guy
04-08-2004, 03:08 PM
To Live Is To Die, while it's a long song, it's 9:48 and therefore not the longest Metallica song. Though if we're saying the longest song that was completely written by them, and Mercyful Fate doesn't count, then as far as I know, that'd be the longest.

No, I think YOU should please explain WHERE I said MoP is "more pop than thrash metal".

There is nothing which prevents me from taking a Slayer or Cannibal Corpse album, and looking at it from a modern rock or pop viewpoint. Or why not compare Cradle of Filth and Red Hot Chili Peppers from a reggae viewpoint, and come to the conclusion that CoF<RHCP? Why the hell not?

c) Failing to understand such a simple argument proves that logic is not your strong side, and you should stop using your brain since you're not very good at it.

a) My argument was never nowhere near that which you say.
b) Talking to you is a waste of time, since you fail to understand it was nowhere near that.
c) Failing to understand such a simple argument proves that logic is not your strong side, and you should stop using your brain since you're not very good at it.
d) My argument was not about opinions or "opinions" as you like to call it
e) The importance of the statement was not greatly signifant, therefore it's not worth the massive job required to articulate it for a retard
f) You're obviously a retard, therefore I shall not bother

Dude, if u think we are such idiots why don't you GRACE us with an explanation of what you mean because we are clearly too stupid for you. Maybe if you explained what you are trying to say instead of us trying to guess, it would help us all end this argument.

Simple thing, complicated explanation. Now why is MoP sometimes considered to be the greatest metal album ever made? Simply, because the mainstream music people thinks so. And MoP is a hell lot more accessible for the mainstream than any pure thrash album, simply because it's less than thrash and has a more modern sound and more hooks, as in pop. Thus, the pop and modern rock listeners would consider MoP to be the greatest thrash album ever made, although they don't really like thrash.

Thrashers often don't consider MoP to be all that special. As a pure thrash album, Kill Em All, or for example almost any Overkill or Exodus album is better from a thrash viewpoint, simply because it's more thrash and MORE WORTH AS THRASH. Exodus' Bonded by Blood is one of the thrashiest albums ever made, but it's TOO THRASHY for the mainstream to consider it worth anything.

A 1997 recording from THE CUD, a project featuring bassist Jason Newsted (Voivod, ex-METALLICA, Ozzy Osbourne) on bass/vocals alongside Chris Scianni on guitar and Dave Borla on drums (both ex-Echobrain), has been posted online in Real Audio format at this location http://www.chophouserecords.com/php/dlt.php?file=../chrmedia/audio/chr/tc_themefromthecud.ram
(songtitle: "The Theme from CUD").

According to a Chophouse Records newsletter, THE CUD formed in New York City during the making of METALLICA's "Reload" album. Previously known for their work with the New York City-based alterna-pop duo DANGERMAN, Chris and Dave went on to join the ECHOBRAIN lineup for their 2002 "Keep Me Alive Tour", which also featured Newsted

As discussed in "the different genres of metal" topic, your "good", "bad", "better than" or "suck" expressions aren't worth anything. At least not to people who don't know anything about you guys. Metallica are better than them? At what? At sucking, or better for waltzing to?

"Intense hardcore punk" or "whiny, cr@ppy emo" would have described them to people like myself, who are not familiar with them.

aside from St.Awful, Kill'em All is my least favourite Metallica album. Their direction from Kill to Ride was such a big jump, they really grew as song writers and musicians in such a short time. Kill has some great moments like "the four horsemen" and "no remorse" but it lacks the power and structure that were put into their other albums.

Kill Em All has the best songs, but I don't listen to it because it hurts my ears.

Yeah it is sort of primal to me as well... I don't think it was supposed to be very melodic. I think they were going through the ignorant teenage iwannabearockstar stage at that point in time. They matured pretty quickly. James was quoted as hating open chords, but then they made Fade to Black on the next album... yeah. Its just a youth thing. I'm a youth, though, so I can't help but wonder if James and the gang were a bunch of goobers.

i have cliff em all on video. it ****ing rules

i got up to page 23 and got bored so i skipped to the last page, but so far no-one had said that kirk hammet is one of the most over-rated guitarist (IMO) he is extremely sloppy live and i would say 3/4 of all solos is just guitar-wankery... anyone agree? mustaine for me owns hammet, his **** in megadeath is unbelievable

seeing as this is the metal thread dont you also think that unlike metallica (who turned all gay, again IMO) bands like slayer and pantera musically just carried on ripping it up, writing and producing music which stayed true to themselves (i'm not saying that they didnt stay true to themselves but it makes you wonder what they were thinking when they WATCHED LIVE bands such as limp bizkit and avril lavigne cover their songs. would a band (think of a metal band randomly) crowbar do something like that? no. why? maybe they dont want to sellout?

it just seems that after the black album, i think things started going downhill musically, financially for the band i'm guessing things started to look brighter.

i hate the way that people always go on about how they like such a song on re-load and load, and there are 'a few good tracks'
f u c k that, i want them all to be ****ing amazing tracks, you put on master of puppets and as soon as battery kicks in, you know its just gonna get better and better.

when i saw metallica live, it was an amazing experience, they can control the crowd as well as making them feel part of the band BUT they still have (and i can only think of one flaw) kirk hammet, he ****ed up in quite a few songs.
now i know we will have some people saying "how can you expect him to play his solos note perfect, he plays so fast, blah blah blah. **** that, hes playing the pentatonic scale most of the time, its not that hard, i saw dream theatre live and vai, petrucci for dream theatre was spot on everytime and that goes without saying for vai.

sorry for the rant :)

Pantera never carried on ripping it up - their sound became contrived and they tried to hard to sound like they were raw and brutal.
Slayer also softened up; they've changed on recent releases.

Also, Kirk doesn't fret wank, he has a lot of melody and he isnt a very fast guitarist at all.

It's not truth; it's opinion, and for someone that hates Metallica so much you spend a lot of time in this thread you know.

I don't like Cunning Stunts. Kirk was in his weird, short hair/make up phase. My favorite one is probably Live Sh!t Binge & Purge or Cliff 'Em All :thumb:

I dont like it that much either - the guitars dont sounds right - there is no where near enough sustain on the intro to one, and the last solo is inaudible.

I agree Live Sh*t binge and purge owns, i really like the seattle one, because there is no black album songs on it, Cliff'em all is awesome to except it sorta sounds bad because the videos are old

Live **** = Amazing, the drum solo part on the San Diego show is ****in funny :thumb:

Cunning Stunts = Not as good as Live **** due to the fact its got a stage show feel to it and they don't seem to be having as much fun.

Cliff 'Em All is the one I still don't have :(

WTF? Cliff 'em All owns Live ****, and you know it.

So what if its old? At least they hadn't cut their hair.

And some videos (Bells) are really good quality. Retard.
